Paul Connolly is on TV3 again, right now - following two Irish Lads doing sex tourism in various places in Europe (Amsterdam, Hamburg).
The two lads don't do us punters any favours. They have no insight into anything really.
Paul Connolly refuses to believes anything said to him which is contrary to his own pre-conceived agenda of what the sex industry is about. Even when interviewing girls who say they are doing this of their own free will - he states his skepticism.
Don't have a link yet, as the programme is still going on. Will post it once it comes on the TV3 site.
He is now going onto the favourite topic of trafficking. I can write his conclusions myself at this stage.
Incidentally if the sex industry in Ireland is booming as much as he said in his previous programme, why is there a need of sex tourism outside of Ireland?

Unfortunately the lads he followed seemed like awful idiots as well - with no concept that there is trafficking, coercion and abuse.
The fact that many of us clients only want to visit women who are doing this of their own free will and not coerced or trafficked, is lost in any "documentary" on TV.

Of course they're going to put the worst morons they can find onto it, who haven't a clue. It makes for better television and confirms your own agenda. If they put on someone who was conscious, articulate and actually aware of the issues they'd get absolutely nothing to point at and say "sleeze".
Then flick onto one and it's like the Savage Eye Frontline sketch. People whinging and fucking moaning about the Mahon Tribunal and "corruption". No shit Sherlock, you want planning permission you lobby a Councillor, you want your fields zoned for development, you lobby a Councillor. It's a non-issue for me. Sex tourism? I mean come on, now I can't speak for anyone else here as I'm sure there are adventurous punters here, but in my view you're asking for trouble and deserve any STI's or jail time you get if you're an idiot about it.
It's just filler, to try and scrape up a reputation as a hard hitting reporter. I think he was the same lad that did that homeless documentary, and the one on the Roma too. He's absolutely laughable and cringe worthy in both of those. I don't want to get bogged down in it either, but in the Roma one his conclusion was completely off (probably so as to be politically correct and stay on the good side), as the house he visited was raided the week after and a number of convictions were secured I believe.
It is a shame, but the truth rarely makes good Tv or newspaper sales just as banjaxed has said. Mr Connolly is trying to maintain status and boost his career just like the sunday papers so sombody will always be the blunt of a story its hurtful to us as it's very close to home occasionally hitting hard as business may suffer short term. xxx but still free publicity, I bet hundreds around the country didn't even know it went on lol xxxxx

...I am also noticing a significant co-relation between the way people are filmed, and their attitude to sex work. Almost without exception, if they are respectfully asked for their consent and interviewed, they are in the sex industry by choice, but if they are stalked and filmed secretly, without their consent, they are, apparently, the helpless victims of traffickers.
I can also see (and anyone doing media studies might like to take note of this) that it seems to be far easier to pixelate a consenting male to unrecognisability than an unwitting female in the process of having her privacy invaded.

I watched the programme. There was the ex German head of police who told Paul that he thought there was nothing wrong with girls selling sex, he said that as far as he was concerned the girls were not trafficked, they offered a service & the guys knew where to go to get what they were looking for. Paul chose not to explore or elaborate on this conversation.
He also spoke to a woman who was working for a 'sexual abuse' foudation who said to Paul that what Ireland was proposing in criminalizing the purchase of sex would be negative, it would force the industry underground & make things worse for those that needed help. Again, Paul chose not to elaborate this line of questioning.
Why? I presume because both go against his beliefs & he doesn't want or intend to give an unbiased, truly informative documentary about the sex industry or the people who work in it. However, he did make an unfounded, transparant assumption that one of the girls he was talking to 'was far from happy & forced' into her chosen line of work. How does anyone come to that conclusion based on a 5 min interview?

When is Paul Connolly going to truly engage with all the people on our side who have a positive and correct message instead of displaying his usual biasness.
With a bit of luck he'll be stuck in Spain for a while because of the airport strikes after all his time wasting of sex workers and their supporters.
