(I take it there are no mods around? Probably all off "to the mattresses" warring with the Triads and three flavours of Mafia? :rolleyes:)

I agree about 200% Alexa...I don't even know where to start on what was wrong with it, just from an objective, media, point of view.

It was as if he went away with a shopping list of all the elements you would need to produce a balanced documentary then went a really crass, sensationalist, am-dram, way about ticking those items off, with no real continuity.

The level of melodrama was embarassing. The sex industry is a business - and the day to day reality of a business can get a tiny bit on the boring side for TV, but, even so I am sure there are enough social and other issues around the sex industry to fill an hour without resorting to that.

In contrast we had a programme based on phone sex last night here in England. Sadly I fell asleep watching it. It was actually pretty acurate and boring lol. Having said that, I liked it because the people doing it were normal people, although none were too attractive, so telephone sex may have a slump in sales for the next few days.

Working on the theory of the programme I watched. I reckon if they composed a programme about all the fake profiles and women who did not reflect their pictures opening the doors, they would do the industry far less favours that trying to make out that we're all pimped and trafficked, as no one wants to waste their money on disappointment. In contrast if they asked the ladies about the timewasters they deal with, the guys that try and blackmail and out us and take the mickey going over time, then they might find some geniune negatives, instead of trying to invent them, but still give a balanced point of view.

Don't they understand that there is enough going on in the reality to make an interesting programme already, so why sensationalise? How about providing the truth for a change?

You did not Heather, flicked between that and Embarassing bodies on C4 some of which included graphic surgery, Connolly was a lot more gruesome!

Nothing life enhancing Heather, trust me...it was really, really bad...Morpheus is right...it was the kind of thing you could put together with a handycam in a couple of hours with the help of a few friends, and without even having to bother any of your colleagues in the sex industry.

The pimp and the "client" were really, REALLY bad stereotypes straight out of "Sin city".

The underlying signs concerning proposed legislation couldn't be better...Alan Shatter's responses suggest that he is fully aware of the propensity of "the Swedish Model" to drive the industry underground (and further into organised crime) rather than eradicate it, but is ruling out going as far as full legalisation and taxation. Which sounds very much as if he has the sense to see the truth, that the best weapon against coercion is decriminalisation.

The point about the, totally unnecessary, risk entailed in legislation that forces women to work indoors alone was made very clearly too.

It was all just so badly put together. :( If it wasn't something I had to watch for the sake of keeping my pontificating real I would have turned over halfway through...and, so far, there is no comment elsewhere I can find.

I can't seem to "thank" this for now (are they rationing my gratitude? :) ) but you are "so" right...there is a way to make an interesting story...but that wasn't it.

I don't think anybody has ever really shown the industry as it is yet...there was an ITV drama series in the 90s that came remarkably close to showing the unvarnished reality of it's time (as far as I could tell - I have never even been in Bradford):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_of_Gold_(TV_series)

It was a bit like "Corrie for Whores" and I always enjoyed it rather than gritting my teeth in anger and irritation. But nothing anyone else has ever done, fact or fiction, came close...TV drama PLEASE TAKE NOTE...because of the stigma, drama may be the best way to convey our truth???

Couldn't agree more with you Eileen ! A documentary holds my interest when I believe in the authenticity of what I am viewing . It is the reality of something that makes it interesting. for me.

However, I think I differ from most people as it seems programme makers feel that they have to 'jazz it up' in order to hold viewer's attention.!:( Look at a lot of the rubbish coming fron Hollywood in the film industry-- sensationalism for the sake of it. Ffs, you cant even watch a rugby international match now without disco musicafter every score or during stoppages -- the people need to be 'entertained ' all the time !! :mad: Sex itself is interesting, no need for all the false melodrama.

Pity they never seem to get to film any of the kind of beautiful, confident, articulate ladies I have met through this business -- these ladies would make the viewers sit up and take notice quick enough without any need for flashy,melodramatic camera work ! :)

It was basically Sunday World TV. If they want to find out what indoor escorting/prostitution is really like for a lot of independent sex workers, they should find someone who does'nt mind a TV crew spending a day with them to record a day in the life of type s documentary (face blurred and voice over by an actor of course). I'd say filming a woman getting herself ready in the morning, having breakfast, waiting by the mobile for calls, answering calls when she gets some and taking a booking now and again, dolling herself up, waiting for clients who never show, going out shopping for groceries or going to get her hair and nails done, doing some household jobs, watching TV with a glass of wine, preparing and eating dinner, getting more and more frustrated with time wasting calls and no-shows, and finally retiring to bed dressed in cotton pyjamas with another glass of wine and a good book would make for rivetting TV.

Just make sure to give it a tabloid title and broadcast it after 9:00 pm so that it does'nt face competition from Coronation Street or Eastenders..................on second thoughts if you want to have any chance of competing with the two soaps, you would need to feature a gay male or transgendered escort, as Corrie and Eastenders have already set a marker in dealing with all aspects of sexuality.

I remember Band Of Gold. I wasn't in the sex industry back then but I remember finding it to be as mixture of funny and disturbing. The 'funny' came from the discomfort of seeing sexual situations I had no idea existed! The 'disturbing' came on the back of the Yorkshire Ripper Murders, something which affected my teenage life greatly. Yes, looking at the sex industry now, with experience of it, band of Gold was a very realistic portrayal.

Eh, all sounds a bit safe and office like. Whats happened to ;

* the constant threats
* abusive, smelly punters
* fielding enquiries about BB and other unsafe practices
* dealing with fee negotiators
* Having to dress up and put on nun's uniform's, school uniforms or other such garb to cater for the client
* what about the Dom sessions and all that goes with it
* unusual requests and bookings from clients -- just look at 'storiesbehind......'
* the work that has to be crammed in between visits
* problems with neighbours
* the hassle on the phone with clients about directions
* interviews with the escort about her escorting life and plans for the future in the buis
* the touring around
* planning of tours
* dealing with hotel acc or apartments in the weeks ahead
* dealing with interaction with her life in civvy street, family, friends
* how she deals with her cash take
* paying for advertising
* dealing with the ups and downs

..... the list goes on and on. I think you would have little problem in making a very interesting and decent documentary about a 'week in the life of a touring escort ' . But maybe thats just me. I'm a documentary fan.:) I like to understand the nuts and bolts of things.

My version was pre watershed to compete with Corrie and Eastenders; your version could not be broadcast before midnight........and as for prostitutes dressing up as nuns......no chance mate, this is a Catholic country. Do you want the place to be excommunicated as well as bankrupted? I always make sure to leave my dog collar at home before I venture out to partake in sinfull pursuits. :D

Wow...things have really changed since my day when you:

swapped the slippers for "sluttin' shoes" (essential)
tried to remember to brush hair AND wash behind ears (optional)
grab money
whip it in
whip it out
wipe it
repeat until financially satisfied

Ahhhhhhh...the good old days....:)

You'd love it now Eileen. The clients bring gifts ( well sometimes ), fix broken beds, fix showers, treat the lady like a princess, wash themselves first in the shower. It's a whole new ball game and THEY want to stop it !!:confused:
