Why did EI change the URL format of the profiles?
Now all my browser bookmarks screwed up and visited links all reset :(

Visiting the old links will say the profile is no longer active, which was initially confusing until I realized what was going on.

There was a software upgrade this morning, a number of things were changed. Will get the confusing thing you added onto the bugs list ASAP.

It has also broken the links in my "Guide". The old links don't generate an error, but they show everyone as "Not Currently Advertising". Can you arrange that the old style addresses, e.g. http://www.escort-ireland.com/5424/Emma/irish-escort.html redirect to the new style addresses, e.g. http://www.escort-ireland.com/498a2363064f4/Emma/irish-escort.html? If not then I will have to pull the "Guide".

The link to your guide in your sig doesn't work? Did we break this too?

The link to the guide is indeed broken, but is easily fixed. The real problem is that all the links in the guide are broken. There's no way for me to fix that because there's no longer any way to associate profile numbers with profile URL's.

I will get it sorted shortly. In IT job list now.

Yes, a redirect would be the simplest and best solution to the problem. It would solve the problem of escorts whose personal sites link to their E-I reviews. If we can't have that then can we at least be told what the algorithm is for generating the new id's from the old ones? The IT people must know that, or they couldn't have made the change in the first place.

Just to say links in El Gordo guide fixed.

We'll get there one step at a time!!!

Thanks, but that doesn't really solve the problem yet. I can't keep the list up to date because I don't have a good way to match the old profiles to the new ones. Names are useless since there often dozens of escorts with the same name, and escorts often change names as well. Those profile numbers were really the only way to be sure who was who. But that issue can wait a bit. I only update the list every couple of months or so. A more immediate problem is that it's now not impossible but quite difficult for me to update the escort locations. I did that by downloading the profiles of the escorts on the list, but the program which did that used the profile numbers as they appear in my records, i.e. the old profile numbers, to determine the profile URL.

I'm not sure the two problems I described above have the same solution. For the short term problem, updating the locations, the simplest thing for everyone would be a redirect from the old addresses to the new ones. That can be done entirely in Apache, without even running any php or querying the database, so there would be essentially no performance hit. At the same time, that would fix the problem of broken links on escorts personal websites. It wouldn't help much, however, with the problem of matching old and new reviews so that both get credited to the same escorts. For that I would need either a list of the old and new numbers for each profile, or the algorithm used to generate the new ones from the old ones.

I hope, as you say, we'll get there. But there may be quite a few steps on the way.

Any webmaster/developer worth his salt should know this. It's page one of the idiots guide.
