just read this and tbh i had to laugh at half of it
reminded me off the head shop argument where all the auld biddys where telling me
aa but when the place is closed they do be selling the other stuff:rolleyes:

seriously people hello, if there is a legal avenue must people will take it
it is easier to regulate control etc!

according to this article, having a legal system creates a larger underground... really???

said it before and ill say it again

have a system where u can let 2 girls work together for saftey
and the girls must register at there local garda station eg. mary connors and bridie sullivan are working form 123 fake st
in order to advertise here we must show we have garda clearence re a refernece number for example

any girl found not to follow this gets a call! now wudnt that be a little smarter?
and wud in my opioin cut alot of trafficing out, as u need to register passport etc

it wud be actualy less work for the garda

prostition will never go away
like drugs wnt

oldest profession in the world for a reason

i always love how all these articles describe sex workers as abused females

well hello men ts tv are also sex workers

get a grip and a bit of cop on and stop thinking with ur moral brains so u dont upset mary noisybitch down the road
coz may sound harsh the generation of backward thinkers is fading and thank god
but if we keep this shit up we will remain biggots

Saoirse your idea is far too simple for those in power to see it right under their noses.

this group in Australia, they call themselves "Coalition Against Trafficking in Women". Women and those who are vulnerable are trafficked all over the world to be exploited by greedy bastards trying to make some money. Not just for sex, but all forms of cheap labour. Why don't they stick to campaigning for that to be stopped, whether it is women forced into prostitution against their own will or slave labour. And leave those who are truly independent to get on with their lives in whatever way they choose and in safety

Well said Saoirse!!!

Completely agree. Particularly your points that I've highlighted above.

I could be accused of being biased and selfish and blind to women's needs if I said the above. But what adds authenticity to your speel, is that you are an independant escort - and clearly not forced or abused!

Keep it up!:).

You should post some of your views as an independant escort, on the TOBL site.

(Unfortunatley if you posted on the TORL site, I have no doubt they would just delete it!:()

I think it's interesting that a lot of groups are adopting the same tactics to achieve their goal. Link prostitution with trafficking, class everyone else as drug addicted or abused and completely ignore everyone who has voluntarily decided to do this job. Obviously anybody who is forcedto enter the world of escorting for whatever reason should be supported in their efforts to leave but not at the expense of genuine escorts and clients.

Yup agreed

The girls I have gotten to know are like me
For example one girl and I had a very let’s say personal conversation regarding out backgrounds
Both form loving families, great childhoods etc. only difference was how we got into it
She British was a lap dancer and I Irish fell into due to the charms of a married man with a wallet full of cash

But the common reason was we saw a way to make a lot of cash to support ourselves thru collage,
Doing something we like... if I didn’t do this id probably still shag randomers thru one night stands
Don’t see ruhuma or anyone else going after them and tbh in my eyes that is cheap and dangerous but won’t go into it...

I’m indie but I’m tarred with the same feather,
If we go through society black people travellers etc. etc., can be look down on, that’s racism and a violation of human rights
Not granting them the same liberties as others

So me as the indie escort, who freely without coercion does this job, but I am still slandered with stereotypes
And soon may lose my right to work in a profession I choose freely

Is that not a violation of my human rights??

I mean sex isn’t illegal
A one night stand is not illegal
A man bullshitting a woman into bed isn’t illegal
Why?

Because they are both consenting adults…

When I choose to see a client it’s my choice
When I choose to allow him into my apartment it’s my choice
When I choose to carry out the booking it’s my choice
It’s on my terms

The only difference form the two is the cash!

Regulate it, tax it and make it safe,
I propose a simple but yet easy and affective method
That could in turn cut trafficking as well

But the Irish motto, I’m afraid of what I do not understand
So eh ban it sure, down with that sort of thing
Hilarious coming form a country once run by a gang of rapist, peadofiles and abusers
Who called themselves the church, and where the meant to be who WE look for our morals

At least paying for it is more honest, what they did to countless children through torture and rape
Or the torture of young girls through forced labour in laundries

Funny isn’t ruhuma ran by the same Magdalene sisters, talk so much about trafficking and the
Violation of women

I’m going to end this little rant with a definition of trafficking

“The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation"

i think irony is the word i am looking for

I don't see the word Sex mentioned or even hinted at. Excellent post Saoirse, summed up perfectly

So much of this really excellent thread reflects my thinking on all this. If people are morally opposed to what we do, that is their choice... I get annoyed by the way people talk about "safety of women" as a smokescreen to hide behind when what they are really saying - "I want to impose my sense of morality on you"!
Would love to see the sort of registration system Saoirsemac set up (would have it regulated by the workers themselves and not the Garda) and then invite all those agitators who say they are about "safety" to help set it up and support it. How many would get involved.... I suspect very few
