OK, so not sure if this thread will survive, it's not scare mongering but I have been asked the question a few times now so I thought I'd answer all at once.
Can anyone read your Pm's:
No anyone cannot but vBullitin after a lot of requests included this feature in version 3.7.3 tso only Super administrators can access and read them, not mods but if a Super Admin gives a Mod access to the Admincp they too can read them but the question is would they be bothered, for the most part NO.
Is this feature used I dunno but there you go..

The mods do not have access to the Admincp, and even access for me and Nicole is restricted. Nobody accesses private messages fella, nor would we have any inclination to do so.

The question, do they have a record of all the pm's you have ever made? If so, that is quite alarming. They would certify me or lock me up if they read some of mine.

I must say Brother Anon that I was not aware of this........but then I'm practically I.T. illiterate.

But maybe E-I uses a different version of vBullitin to this 3.7.3 version.

We have enough to do modding the boards let alone the pms. Mods do not have nor would we want to have that ability

And some of us like Anon have bigger things to hide, while others like Mousey have smaller things to hide. Tell me Sam, from the messages that Doc and Magic were sending each other, did they each show the other one what they had to hide.....and were they flaccid or erect? :D:D:D

I shall just quote a post from another forum, I like the choice to remove Private Messages and replace with just Messages LOL

This has turned into a silly debate.

When I had a forum, we would pro-actively read messages to:

1. Trace people who were advertising
2. Trace people who were scamming
3. Trace people who were otherwise violating our rules (abuse etc)

As a result, we renamed "Private Messages" to just "Messages" and we informed our users of this.

I think it's up to each board administrator whether or not they read the messages. Imo, nobody should have the right to tell another board admin what to do on their forum, providing they're not breaking the law in the country in which they reside. (And even if they are, it's a case for the authorities, not you!)

Why not call them Non-private Messages, or Open Messages, or Open Letters, or Love Letters, or French Letters........E-I should just run a monthly competition to come up with a new title for PMs..........I always got confused between PMs and PMS and was afraid to write to people in case they got narky with me. :D:D:D

We don't read PM's people. No, to the vast majority it doesn't matter if you can or can't, me included, I would actually call for the facility to be available if it were my site as I can see in certain circumstances where it may be necessary.

Patricia, you disappoint me, the admin features of vBulletin are well documented and admins ability to read PM's is well covered. Now I have a PM from an admin of a different site using the same version v as this site and he confirmed he can but would be be bothered so I don't post things without checking my facts:p

Please check!!! Show me a link to where this feature is documented. I'm being straight with you, we have never had such a feature, I don't believe it exists, well not as a standard vbulletin feature anyway. It's ok if I'm wrong, but I really have never heard of this feature you talk of.

Like my mate said, it is a feature but if you don't understand vBulletin you can use an ad-on, here is the code to use within vBulletin without the need for the ad-on.

acp->run query-> select * from pmtext
you can also see everything with phpmyadmin.

You are confirming my point here. I didn't say it was technically impossible for a website operator to monitor PMs on their vbulletin, but we don't, we never have, and it is not a standard vbulletin feature.
