A 51-year-old French father of two is suing pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, claiming their drug Requip – which is used to treat Parkinson’s - resulted in him becoming addicted to gambling and gay sex.

Didier Jambart says after he started taking the drug, he began gambling, exposing himself on the Internet and engaging in risky sexual encounters that led to him to being raped.

His lawyer stated that after Jambart lost his family's life savings on online gambling sites, he attempted suicide three times.

Jambart had taken Requip from 2003 to 2005 and claimed his behaviour stopped when he stopped taking the drug. His lawyers have stated that the drug has been known for years to have side-effects but a manufacturers GSK only began printing a warning on its package in 2006.

Requip's warning label states some of its users "developed gambling problems or other intense urges or behaviours that were compulsive or unusual for them, such as increased sexual urges or behaviours."

Jambart is suing the company for €450,000 ($610,000). GlaxoSmithKline have yet to comment.

What do you think?

He was French
Anyway I doubt any of the side effects printed on the box reads
Warning may cause drowseyness loss of appitie , gambling addiction and craving for casual gay sex

This is just another person who got in trouble and doesnt want to face up to what he has done

Can you imagine it was real?
The Americans would be equipping their army with the stuff to spike their enimies

What the enemy would be to busy gambling and have orgies to bother defending their posts?

that's quite a claim- as a US resident I'd politely suggest that most gun massacres could have been prevented if the perps were on correct doses of anti-psch meds!! If the guy in Tucson had gotten help ( & perhaps lithium) perhaps he wouldn't have caused that carnage!

btw- whatever about Gay Sex- this story isn't that novel- there is very strong anecdotal evidence that several drugs in this Class cause addictive behaviour, there's scores of accounts of little old ladies with no history of gambling hitting the casinos after getting these meds!
If you're asking if he will be successful claiming- I'd imagine not in a french court.. now if he came over here.......lil old ladies getting $$$$ outa McDonalds for coffee scalds- who knows!!

ps.. just had a look at your "information source"... let's just say, ahem....it's not exactly the New England Journal of Medicine:rolleyes:
