A Christian couple that have been barred from fostering children because of their views on homosexuality are set to appeal their case to the U.K’s High Court.

Eunice and Owen Johns, 62 and 65, said questions were raised over their suitability as foster carers after they told social workers they could not tell a child a homosexual lifestyle was acceptable.

The couple had applied to Derby City Council to be respite carers but withdrew their application after a social worker expressed concerns regarding their attitudes toward homosexuality.

According to the Christian Legal Centre, which has taken up their case, the couple are not homophobic but they are against sex before marriage and do not recognise civil partnerships between gay couples as marriage.

The case continues....

Should they be allowed to foster?

Its a hard one but I think the socail worker may be wron on this one. Ask anyone whose parents are of a certain age and the might well be a bit homophobic or even racist yet their kids are not. I mean what next are socail workers going to stop people from fostering/adopting if they do not support teh same political party or even worse a different football team (Sorry where Im from a mixed marriage bascially means onces a United supporter and the other a ****scouser)

I can understand that some people want to have very open minded child rearers but not all people are like that. They have their own opinions about certain issues and maybe that shouldnt be a decideing factor on a canditates suitabbility (unless they want to exterminate a culture ) to foster a child. As much as I disagree with the couples views I dont think a chance of caring for a child should be rejected

I think it depends on what they would say later to the child if he/she figured out he/she was homosexual. If they would say "You will burn in hell forever! Do not darken our door again!" then yes, they should be barred from fostering or adopting, because that's the last thing anyone needs growing up. But there are people who disapprove of homosexuality in the abstract, but who are kind and understanding in practice. If this couple is like that then I would allow them to foster or adopt.

Yes, maybe is deliberately missing to encourage discussion....
