I was somewhat surprised. I had always thought that gay men have to put up with a lot of crap in this society, but that as some small measure of compensation you at least get to have more sex than we do. Was I wrong?

200 sounds unlikely. That can't be the average, unless there are a lot of guys doing nothing else, to compensate for the guys not getting any.

You could go to a sauna; cruising ground; sex club and have several encounters @ one time...so that number is very possible...
If your active....yeeehaa! how many time do str8 people have sex per year? Even if you had sex twice once a week you would be half way there.
