If your friend was staright would this be an issue.
Even if he is gay I dont see the problem
I have shared with a straight girl and a straight guy...I was able to remain in control...although there was a pillow divide. Just in case I rolled over during the night and started spooning :)

I'd say yeah i would , but the deciding factor would be that he , in no way has made it clear that he fancies me at any stage during the time i have possibly known him . The first time I shared a bed with a gay guy was when i was 19, mind you I didn't know he was gay then nor did he. 4 of us lived in a 3 bed apartment (1 bed in the TV room, 2 beds in the bedroom) and we shared on of the beds in the bedroom.
