I always held on to the Cupla Focail. I always found it handy living abroad. But the language is dying. You would get a quare look now if you tried to speak to someone in Irish.

Speak it to an Irish person in Dublin and the best response that you might get could be-''Which country are you from? ''

The fact that it's shovelled down childrens throats causes them to rebel against it.
That's what happened me.

I think it was just taught badly! BTW it is a very difficult language to learn despite only having 11 irregular verbs!

Agreed. If we were taught conversational Irish, it would be far more useful than the classical stuff I learned in school. All I remember is doing heaps of stuff in the past tense, rewriting it in the present and future tense and the other thing. Might be some good for story telling but fuck all use in regular conversation where we need to mix tenses like, " I tried to see Biddy yesterday but I'm seeing her later today instead, if we click I hope to visit her every week, if not its back to the lady I saw last week, yeah, the one with the small boobs and curvy teeth."

Cant speak a word of Irish and even if I could I would have nowhere to use it.

They should start giving options of languages to learn in school rather dictate we must learn Irish!
