Being disabled, besides the obvious effects, also affects the person’s personality. They may accept it and try to make the most out of life and be happy for what they have. However, this outlook is very difficult to maintain 24/7, and it is normal to feel resentful, unfairly victimised, jealous, sad, depressed, angry etc.

Many disabled people find it very difficult to find love due to their disability, and for young men and women, this is very hard to cope with.

What I am trying to say is that, yes, sometimes disabled people are pains in the arse, but I believe we must be more tolerant and sympathetic (up to a point of course).

You are right about honesty. I've had clients turn up with disabilities and not bother to tell me beforehand. It's not just the surprise factor when a cholostomy bag appears, but also something that the lady being visited may not be comfortable with. I once had a guy turn up who was allergic to detergent and I'm telling you his pants were brown!!!! He reckoned they were washed, but they looked awful. That turned my tummy, but worse than that I later discovered that his thermostat was broken (as in he sweated profusely) and my quilt cover was drenched right through by the time he left. I couldn't use the bed the rest of the day and everything needed washing and the duvet dry cleaned.

If the chap had told me in advance I may have said no, but equally I may have just put a plastic sheet under a blanket, so only the blanket needed washing and saved my bed. People need to be considerate on both sides, regardless of if it is a disability or any other unique thing the client may have in mind. Don't just spring it on us.
