View Full Version : SEX WORKERS IN THE DAIL!!! :o)

Ok, I now have this from 3 different people, two official, one semi...

...it LOOKS AS IF SEX WORKERS WILL BE GOING BEFORE THE COMMMITTEE

:clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping: :clapping:

If you feel you can handle this important task please call Alan Guidon on 618 3899 Pat Neary on 618 3153.

What I believe (and this is what I believe, not a crock of sh*t) is that it has been my job to pave the way, and show-not-tell that if a sex worker stands up for herself NOTHING BAD HAPPENS.

I can assure you the Justice Committee are tired hearing from me, and it really IS time they heard from *YOU*.

:D

Fantastic! Great to hear. I'm very happy for you. Hope it goes well
Amount of accomplishments made by escorts in getting themselves heard in last 2 weeks have been phenomenal.

That's good news, LaBelle, but I hope it's not just window dressing?

The committee has some answering to do - why did sex workers have to protest on the street before they were given an invite, what percentage of overall submissions were in favour (or not) of the Swedish model, and why is the committee only focusing on it when the consultation document proposed four different approaches.

Well done to all concerned.

While its a great and totally appropriate development i would be concerned that there will be a move to introduce the testimony of a trafficked victim, which in itself would only be fair .Irrespective of how well any of the residential escorts speak , the horrific evidence provided by any trafficked victim will lend itself to a more emotive , zero-tolerance approach towards prostitution , even if such zero tolerance can be counter-productive.
Ironically , genuine testimony of ANY trafficked victim should re-inforce the uncompromisable importance of finding the optimum environment for sex workers - instead , i would be concerned that the knee-jerk reaction of abolishinism may benefit from this development.

LaBelleThatcher

They should really bring a street worker in too...and NOT through Ruhama.

Everything could backfire, of course it could, but it will still be Sex Workers treated as equal human beings...

Bearing in mind many of the usual suspects are not back in Ireland as yet, would it be possible for anyone who goes to the meeting to take testimonials from other ladies who would attend if they could get there?

I don't see why not.

I don't see why not.

In that case mine is already done. I've also been looking at the Submission to the Joint Oirechtas Committee on Justice, Equality and Defense on the 'Discussion Document on Future Direction of Prostitution Legislation'. The wording is unbelievable and information so out of date. I'm pretty sure that we could write one more accurately that apposes there ideas using a Country where prostitution has been legalised and shows a better response for all the points raised.

Could we create a submission on behalf of the provider and consumer?

Well done Labelle, Rachel and all the other ladies involved.:hail::hail::hail:

It's a huge first step. The next step is to make sure the committee actually sit up and listen to what you have to say. A lot of the evidence to date would suggest to me that most of the committee have already made up their minds and just want to railroad the Swedish model through :angryfire:. Well, they are going to have to listen to you now - so don't let them away easy. Best of luck.

P.S. Ladies - don't forget the fashion statement as well!!:p We sure wouldn't want any internal complaints again!!

Appparently thigh high leather/ PVC boots are the expected standard escort attire - if you believe every single 'documentary' done by RTE/TV3 on sex work!!!:stupid:

Whilst I think it's great that an invitation has been sent I do think that just two days notice is very short.
I hope that a convincing argument can be assembled in such a short time frame.
Bet Sarah and Denise got more than two days notice. There presentations showed much "robust" coaching
and had obviously benefited from spin doctors input.

Anyway good luck to whoever attends, we're all behind you. Knock 'em dead!

What is said verbally has nothing to do with what dress you're wearing lol. I was referring to the comment on clothing x

I hope any mega points said on our part are leaked. The fact that they are not giving us much notice to prepare, shows that they are aware they are fighting a force to be reckoned with. Prostitutes with intelligence!!! Who would have thunked it? The more time they give us, the better the response.

Great great news that its not this wednesday anfd fair play to those committe members which are giving bona fide opportunity to organise themselves - it gives more time for escorts to get together to gather an optimal approach to proceedings.

Firstly I think this is to be welcomed. Any opportunity to put across a balanced and fair point of view to legistrators must be utilised. Maybe some clients who have the skill-expertise and work in the PR –media field etc might engage with those attending on how best to use this time and give some guidance. The first thing to note is that to drive the industry underground only adds to the scare stories etc. If we look for instance at probation in the 30’s around alcohol and what happened there, it is symptomatic of society and how its behaviour is effected by over zealous regulation. Instead of stopping lawlessness and such activity, instead led to the gangster culture and created cult figures like al Capone et al. However if you review Amsterdam and the coffee shop laws, this I believe shows how with proper control society can co-exist with activity which in other countries is deemed as law breaking. At least with regulation there are controls and safeguards. With mandatory testing and health screening for the escorts involved this would be something to be welcomed and encouraged. Again a license system would also create a revenue stream, (I know some may scoff at this but it would give credence to the independent aspect of the work) and it could be taxed like any other occupation. Also for instance in the US and UK the sex trade seems to have some semblance of control and regulation, which works well for the escort (safety, well being etc etc) and also the client.

I think it is important not to lose sight of the fact unfortunately some girls do find themselves in the awful scenario of being trafficked and we all must show our abhorrence to this vile and deplorable activity.

Just my thoughts on the issue, and I hope a number of escorts will use the opportunity to put their side to the law makers.

Perhaps worth putting discussion of this in a private thread (assuming that can be done).

Just wary that there's some undesirables lurking who may make use of plans.

As mentioned they have cancelled the meeting for tomorrow, so we will have to wait and see what new date they come up with and who is available. No harm in a little swatting up in the mean time. Whoever does attend with be well supported that way.

It would be a huge advantage to introduce a local or Irish dimension to the debate. The recent 104 Fm programme fell foul of this. Would privacy be provided ? If Laura Lee could speak, it would be a big advantage, along with say the wonderful Amy Alison and perhaps Kate , Naughty Nat , Stephanie, Ebony Amber would be great.

There is a lot of allegations on this thread and unfortunately it has been completely pulled off topic. In my eyes, this is nothing more than a smear campaign between two different groups fighting for the same cause.

All this nonsense of agencies and 'independent' escorts. From my experience of working here (nearly three years), I have learned that most independent escorts have at least worked for an agency at some point of their lives, and given the attitude in Ireland, it is completely understandable why nobody will admit to this, because it is a nation that is conditioned to to believe that all agencies represent trafficking and coercion. The irony is that most clients and escorts here are challenging the likes of Ruhama to present their facts to support the high-level trafficking and coercion claims whilst simultaneously telling everyone to 'beware the agency'. It is redundant.

Whether escorts are free-range or agency worker, if this piece of legislation comes to Ireland, it will be illegal to visit ANY escort. THAT is what we should all be focusing on.

I hope this post wasn't too sombre.

Just seen this http://sexonomics-uk.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/irelands-justice-committee-hearings.html?utm_source=supporter_message&utm_medium=email from Dr Brooke Magnanti.

Fair play to her, she has offered to appear before the committee. Another hero for me.

The next hearing (originally scheduled for today) has been postponed due to a funeral, and is not yet rescheduled.
Yes, sex workers will be included, but
He could not tell me any details of who or when, and
Future hearings will not be webcast or open to observers, also
No transcripts of further evidence, redacted to protect identities or otherwise, will be provided.
