Introducing the "upper class, educated and eloquent" Ms Laura Lee, also featuring an ignorant old fool with an overactive imagination and a peerage:

I am listening at the record in this moment and this man says Sweden didnt drove the prostitution underground yet an independent escort is telling him her concerns and are not valid. Very sad :(

The callers who support the Morrow proposal let themselves down the moment they mentioned children of sex workers (What the hell does anyone's personal life have to do with this?) and 'having no shame' regarding sex work.
Clearly, it's all about the morals.
Putting positive legal and social reform in place to protect vulnerable women would be more useful than criminalising clients.
What planet do some people live on.

If prostitution work was in the open and socially acceptable then nobody would ever have reason to ask the question 'Do your family know what you do?'
I think Joan just needs to experience an orgasm :)

So what we need to do is some how show that the 80,000 consists mostly of educated and willing Escorts and that they are the majority and not the minority? Could a list be compiled to show that? Also in edition, how about a list of Escorts that actually declare their tax? Surely they can not disagree with that? I know it is diffiucult, as most of us want to remain anonymous, but if we could actively put our working names forward as active and Independent?

I'd consider the liar option. Willingly using out dated facts knowing that they were only posed towards a minority and calling it the majority is a blatant lie in my book.

throw Joan in the bin, you couldn't take her seriously "this is SEX were talking about"
i was surprised at the weak argument of Lord Murrow at this stage "what if we hadn't legislated for murder?"
these people want to get rid of prostitution because they feel uncomfortable bout it-tough shit you c*nt! ;)

The other man in the interview, David McIlveen I think although not sure, was a complete fantasist. Girls kidnapped, drugged, trafficked and used for sex. Even if that was so, how does he expect making the client a criminal will stop that. Everything there is already illegal. And making the client a criminal would not of stopped the Rochdale case.

I think he had watched the film 'Taken' with Liam Neeson in it. I watched that film too. I can honestly say that my Dad is nothing like Liam's character, nothing like real life at all.

Well done Laura though, for standing your ground and that woman who was in support of the change, was not bothered about trafficking at all. She just didn't like the idea of people having sex! Period!

A list will not proove escorts are sex workers on free will.

That is why it was posed as a question and not a solution Rachel. I was hoping it might lead to a solution if people put their thinkng caps on and looked a little further. Any ideas?

after listening to that pod cast
ive come to the conclusing all people working in goverment should be required to pass a IQ test and a test to idenfity iof they have a logical and comon sensce mind

fuck it id do a better job at running the country

Exactly. I don't give a rat's behind what sort of poncy education politicians have behind them. Logic and common sense is not something that can be learned. And they are traits that are sorely lacking in most people in power these days. Another sign that the world has gone to pot.

I listened to the podcast and I just wanted to make the point that I'm quite happy that the other point of view was given and not just one side biased.

Journalists and broadcasters should be commended for atleast airing Indie views etc etc

Agreed. It certainly gives a bit of hope that there are some people out there with a brain. I remember a radio show a few months ago..... was it Joe Duffy? That was about the proposed sex laws down here. And he gave a very balanced view as well.

He did give her right to reply, but he also posed a few questions that were negatively charged too. You could certainly see which side he was leaning towards and that isn't good journalism. I would say good, but could improve if marking his work.

At this stage our issue is not human trafficking more is to show the majority of prostitutes in Ireland are on sex industry on free will.
The "coerced" ones are in larger number and therefore the human trafficking must be stopped by criminalize the client is not true or the solution.
If were more escorts to talk to the media, point out the free will, the danger working alone in the apartment and the client to stay safe, would make a difference.
The difference is needed to be hear out there.

But do not forget the one most important thing, which is that taking away the income of sex workers by criminalising clients (which is the intention, whether it works or not) will do sex workers A GREAT DEAL OF HARM.

This may seem self evident to us, but we need to make sure it is self evident to the rest of the world too.

This is the bit that really gets me, criminals won't give a stuff about the law. If you are going to rob someone, rape them, blackmail them you aren't going to be worried about the fact that paying for sex is illegal. In the meantime quite ordinary citizens either avoid the entire thing, or carry on and risk being a criminal themselves.

I think what many of these people don't realise is that clients are their male relatives and friends, brothers, fathers, sons, grandfathers, colleagues, partners even, people in responsible and respected roles and jobs who are completely trustworthy and wouldn't wish to or cause harm to anyone else.

Prostitution was probably even around in the stone age, it being the oldest profession and all.;)

I have only just listened to the podcast of the Nolan show with Laura Lee and the other contributors and have only the highest admiration for the lady and how she put her points across. She was eloquent, poised, polite and came across as being highly intelligent and well informed unlike the other buffoons like Maurice Morrow and his knee jerk reactions to sex workers.

Well done Ms Lee and indeed the other ladies who have spoke out in recent weeks.
