Baby, it’s cold outside.
Don’t let a dip in the temperature fool you – some of the steamiest and kinkiest sex can be had when it’s freezing cold. So, the thought of stripping off might seem extreme, but it is possible to stay warm while doing it in the winter (and without investing in an electric blanket!).
Indoor Positions
The Sled Doggy Style
Think the cold stops dogs from getting it on? Think again! This doggy style with a twist will keep you and your partner toastie warm. It’s all about maximising the skin-on-skin contact – so, find a position that allows you both to feel a bit more skin. When you and your partner are going doggy style, slowly flatten your bodies so that he’s essentially on top of you. This will increase the skin-on-skin surface area.
The Northern Missionary
Like above, this position is all about maximising body contact. Wrapping your arms and legs around your partner while going missionary will reduce the gaps between the body, and will help warm the extremities!
The Warm Winter Spoon
Spooning is the ultimate position for skin-on-skin contact, but it runs the risk of leaving your girl exposed to the cold. Use your hands to warm her up – rub her breasts, thighs, and clit to heat things up a little. An added bonus is that this position can be done under the covers – what more could you want?
Time to Take It Outside?
Colder climates can often complicate the easiest of things. Sex therapist Vanessa Marin warns, “Being cold makes it hard to get an erection, and the frigid air can dry up vaginal lubrication. Plus, you can get frostbite on other areas of your body if you’re distracted by the sex you’re having!” This might sound far from sexy – but part of the fun is having to adapt and work together to create an exciting experience for you both.
Safety first
There are numerous ways and places to get a little frisky this winter, but if you intend to take it outdoors this winter – keep it fast and dirty. Dress as warm as you can and always keep an eye out for signs of frostbite. Aim to keep as many clothes on as possible. Women, think skirts or dresses with crotchless tights for easy access – we recommend Leg Avenue Crotchless Fishnet Pantyhose (£6.99, kinky.co.uk). Men can simply pull their penis through their fly without having to completely undress. Placing a fleece blanket between you and the ground will also prevent you from getting too cold too quickly.
Clinical sexologist, Dr. Kat Van Kirk, suggests warming up with a shot of peppermint schnapps or whisky before the act. Although a shot of liquid courage will help warm you up before the act, limit yourself to a couple of drinks at the most. Drinking too much can lead to bad decisions and will lower the core temperature of the body, leaving you vulnerable to sickness and hyperthermia. Dr. Kirk also suggests never straying too far away from public places or a main road, especially in icy conditions, and always keep a phone with you in case of an emergency. If things get a little too nippy, remember you can always continue the action inside.
Experiment with Locations
The possibilities are endless. If you often go away for Christmas, make your outdoor sex adventure part of the trip. Dr. Kirk advises that you start with some “activities to increase blood circulation like cross-country skiing or snowshoeing to whatever location you choose,”. Then once your heart is racing, sneak off into a location off the main slopes and have a quickie.
Not a winter sports fan? Hot tubs or a warm bath are equally exciting! The contrast of hot water and cold air against your skin will feel incredible. An outdoor fire pit will work just as well – lay a blanket nearby, or pull up some chairs and get your partner to straddle you.
If you or your partner prefer some privacy, but still want the thrill of getting it on outdoors; having sex in a car is the perfect compromise. Turn the heating off and feel the cool air tingling against your hot bodies – the windows will steam up in no time!
