In some of the most bizarre news that you will hear this year, it has been reported that Vatican authorities raided a drug fuelled gay sex party at the apartment of one of Pope Francis’ top advisers.
This all comes from a report in ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano’, a Italian newspaper that says Vatican raided the apartment of the Cardinal back in June.
The apartment belongs to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which among their roles deal with allegations of child sexual abuse.
When the police arrived there, they allegedly found a group of men having sex, as well as drugs on the premises.
Serious Repercussions
The occupant of the home, a secretary to Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, was arrested and taken for questioning.
It appears that Coccopalmerio star was on the rise, as his secretary was about to be promoted to Bishop. However, that is a thing of the past, and it seems Pope Francis is so annoyed that he is now demanding the Cardinal himself retires early.
It hasn’t been a good week for the Vatican. It comes off the back of sex abuse allegations made against high-ranking Cardinal George Pell. It has to be said, Pell does deny these allegations. He says he is looking forward to having his day in court after a two-year investigation, which he says involved ‘leaks to the media’ and ‘relentless character assassination’.
It is an interesting time for the gay debate in the Catholic church. Though Pope Francis is a lot more liberal then his predecessor, it is fair to say many don’t think he has gone far enough.
Apparently the Pope was saddened after hearing a story of two nuns getting married. Federica, 44, and Isabel, 40, married in northern Italy following a law being passed that allowed same-sex couples legal recognition in the country. Obviously it wasn’t a Catholic ceremony.
There are many such cases where priests or nuns hide their relationships with men or women,” the pair were quoted as saying.
“We felt alone, more than that, we felt abandoned.”
Well, according to Deputy Secretary of State Archbishop Angelo Becciu, the Pope was saddened by the incident.
He tweeted: “How much sadness on the Pope’s face when I read him the news of the two married ‘nuns.”
An Eye-Opener
I am not here to talk about the Catholic church’s attitude on gay marriage. What I will say is that senior members of the clergy getting coked up and having a gay orgy may be a teensy-weensy bit hypocritical. There are so many Catholics struggling with their sexuality, and then you have this kind of carry on. No wonder the Pope is pissed off.
It does at least show that members of the Catholic church are human. Maybe that should be dwelled upon next time they are discussing their attitudes towards the LGBTQ community.
