The Rose Alliance Condemns French Vote!

Rose Alliance strongly condemns the vote by French National Assembly which criminalises the clients of sex workers in France. We stand in solidarity with the French sex workers who have fought against the introduction of this law and feel deep sorrow that yet another country has chosen the same path as Sweden despite evidence of the harm this path has caused here. Continue reading The Rose Alliance Condemns French Vote!

Laura Lee Blog – The Turning Tide Book Review

I’m not a fan of crime thrillers, at all, but having followed Dr. Magnanti’s previous works I was very interested to read The Turning Tide. I wasn’t disappointed. The story opens with the discovery of a body in the highlands and takes us on a journey, introducing us to some very rich and diverse characters along the way. Continue reading Laura Lee Blog – The Turning Tide Book Review

Laura Lee – SWAI Statement on FEMPOWER

The Sex Workers Alliance Ireland would like to extend our thanks to the organisers and attendees of Saturday’s FEMPOWER conference. We received a warm welcome, and were met with significant interest and support from many of the women there, so much so that we ran out of copies of our policy document “Realising Sex Workers’ Rights in Ireland”. Continue reading Laura Lee – SWAI Statement on FEMPOWER

A Letter to You – The Laura Lee Blog

I’ve decided to write a letter to you. You may only recognise yourself in some of what I’m about to say. You may not recognise yourself at all, in which case, thank you friend. I’ve been hugely inspired by Panti Bliss and her wonderful film “Queen of Ireland” on her fight for equal marriage for the LGBT community and I want to acknowledge that. Bring it On – The Laura Lee Blog

See, here’s the thing.

We Irish folk are very friendly. We just are. We’re also very self-deprecating, no-one comes close to us when it comes to taking the mick out of ourselves. Given the current state of Irish politics, it’s just as well really. Laugh or be damned. It’s that or a one way ticket to the Home for the Bewildered. The Laura Lee Blog – Amnesty International Asks Minister of Justice to Stop Criminalisation of Clients

Sex Workers Alliance Ireland (SWAI) welcomes Amnesty Ireland’s submission to the Department of Justice and Equality calling on the Minister for Justice and Equality to remove Section 20 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 2015. Section 20 proposes to criminalise the purchase of sexual services in Ireland. Continue reading The Laura Lee Blog – Amnesty International Asks Minister of Justice to Stop Criminalisation of Clients

A Tale From The Dark Side – Laura Lee

See, here’s the thing.

T is my most sensible friend, there’s no question about that. Admittedly, the bar isn’t too high in terms of sensibilities, but still. In a late night spirited political debate, he will always be the one to demand evidence, damn him. Not a problem where the Nordic model is concerned, but when we’re talking about the inhumanity of North Korea’s 28 permitted haircuts, I struggle. Still, he’s tremendous fun, when he’s not trolling Mumsnet on the efficiency of terry towelling nappies in the eco system. We met whilst both stuck in the world of corporate prostitution – banking. It’s from there that the following tale comes. I say tale, I’m utterly convinced it’s true, for two reasons. Continue reading A Tale From The Dark Side – Laura Lee

Laura Lee Blog – I Need Your Help!

As you know, I have been fighting the Swedish model for two years in Northern Ireland now and in spite of my best attempts, it came into law on June 1st. I have instructed Counsel and am ready to raise a judicial review at the High Court in Belfast. It’s going to cost £7,000 to get heard, and that’s where you come in.
