I love technology. Every year there is something new invented by the boffins that makes our lives easier and much more enjoyable. Of course one of the things that has really benefited is the sex industry.
Take this new invention in Germany, which helps punters find prostitutes using a GPS system. The Berlin based Peppr app alerts punters to sex workers in their immediate area.
Pure Genius
The app was invented by Austrian developer Pia Poppenreiter (whose surname amusingly translates to ‘screw-rider’), who thought it up, after seeing girls out on the cold streets one evening.
“On a late autumn day in Berlin, I was on my way with a friend to a bar on Oranienburger Straße. It was cold – I had a skirt on myself – and I saw a sex worker on the street. I thought, “It’s crazy that there’s an app for everything, but not for that. Why do they have to stand there in the winter all day?” That thought has never left me.”
Peppr will not work with brothels, and only works with proper escort agencies or individuals.
As most of us know, prostitution is legal in Germany. Take a trip down Oranienburger Straße, and you will see plenty of girls in short skirts walking up and down the road. It is very difficult when you are having dinner there with your girlfriend whilst on holiday not to have a look (as I found out to my cost). To be fair, they are stunning, and it is such a relaxed atmosphere. No-one who is going about their day to day business cares. It just feels so natural.
A Changing World
Back when I was first punting in the 1990’s, things were so much different. Yes, you could find escort services in the back of magazines and newspapers. You of course wouldn’t have any idea whether you were going to visit the girl in the pictures or not. There would be less choice, and less chance of meeting the escort of your dreams.
