Rob Kardashian Could Be Jailed For Revenge Porn!

Sending nudes to your partner has become a big concern for many. We want to share those sexy snaps, but we also worry that the person we share them with might then share them online. Revenge porn is now a crime in many parts of the world, such as in California, and it is here that Rob Kardashian is facing a heap of trouble.

Severely distraught young man sitting in front of a computer with a judgmental hand pointing at him from within the computer monitor which shows the man being either computer bullying bullied or Facebook social media stalking stalked.

Rob Kardashian decided on Wednesday that it would be an excellent idea to share Blac Chyna’s sexy pictures on social media, along with a few accusations to go with them. Needless to say, they were taken down relatively quickly.

The issue is that they were still shared, and so Rob Kardashian is now facing the weight of California’s law when it comes to revenge porn. So what is it, what could happen to Rob Kardashian, and what does this mean for the future?

What is revenge porn?

For those of you reading this feeling totally confused about what this is even about, we’re here to explain it to you. Revenge porn, or revenge pornography, is the name used to refer to any sexually explicit content which features one or more people and is distributed without their knowledge. This could be in a Snapchat to a friend or by posting it on social media.

Usually there is malicious intent behind it. People will share these images in an attempt to embarrass and upset the person who shared them in the first place. There are even websites out there for people to share these pictures and criticise those featured in them. They will pick up on every single part of the victim’s body and insult them in every way that they can.

It makes the person sharing the content that isn’t theirs feel good about themselves, while the victim is left feeling lousy. We don’t need to tell you that it is a shitty thing to do. In fact, Ireland is already making moves to act against revenge pornography.

Rob Kardashian crosses a line

When we send sexy pictures to others, we do it because we want to turn them on. We don’t do it so that the person receiving the pictures can then share them all over social media simply because they want to get back at us.

Unfortunately, this is what Rob Kardashian decided to do. He decided to take to Instagram to share some intimate photos he had of his on-off girlfriend, Blac Chyna. In the captions he accused her of cheating on him with a number of different men in the space of a month.

Even if she had cheated on him, that is no excuse to share these pictures online. And it seems that this act might come back to bite him in the ass, as it breaks the laws on revenge porn in California.

Instagram shut his page down not long after he shared the content, but that didn’t stop him rushing over to Twitter to share his angst. In a number of tweets he claimed that she had another man in their bed right after buying her jewellery, and that she got caught cheating, which lead to the images appearing on Instagram.

What could happen to him?

The laws on revenge porn are different all around the world. However, in California, where Rob Kardashian lives, this act is considered a misdemeanour. As such, it is punishable by up to six months in prison. He could also face a fine of up to $1,000, though lawyers believe it might be more.

In order for Kardashian to be charged with this, the courts must prove that he was in possession of images showing an “intimate body part of another identifiable person”, and that he then posted them online with the intention of causing distress to Blac Chyna.

However, some believe that it could cost Kardashian even more. Lisa Bloom, a lawyer in LA, stated that “Kardashian’s conduct epitomizes ‘revenge porn’,” and states that he could also face a $5,000 court fine. She also believes that, if Chyna were to get a sympathetic jury, she might be able to sue for millions.

Sharing nudes

For some people, there is an obvious solution to preventing someone sharing nudes of you online. They say that you just shouldn’t send them to anyone in the first place. Personally I’m a fan of people not being dicks and sharing intimate things sent to them by someone else.

Revenge porn is nothing new, and the fact that Rob Kardashian is getting a lot of attention for his actions is, in a way, a good thing. It is highlighting how seriously courts are taking revenge porn cases. You might think that it isn’t a big deal to share that picture, but the courts would like to argue otherwise!

A study late last year discovered that nearly ten million Americans are victims of revenge porn… so just imagine what the numbers are like around the rest of the world!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think he crossed a line or not? You can see what other thoughts in the Twitter poll below. Don’t agree? Use the comment box below to join in the discussion.
