Sadly, they say our sex drives go down with age. Studies that show the lack of sex pensioners have are a reminder for many that whilst us young(ish) people are enjoying that kind of fun now, there will come a point when our lives are a sexless shell of what they once were. However, this story of a couple of pensioners being banned from shopping centres after being caught having sex in a department store should fill us all with hope.
What makes it even more shocking is that Gerry Joyce, 68, and Charles Lowe, 73, did not know one another before they went to the toilets at the store in Nottingham’s intu Victoria Centre.
A Compromising Situation
Prosecutor Lee Shepherd said a security guard ‘went into the toilets and saw them stood next to each other at the sinks. One had his trousers up.’
This was after suspicions were raised by a shop worker who asked the security guard to go and find out what was actually going on.
When they were caught having sex, the male pensioner ‘quickly pulled up his trousers’. They subsequently admitted sexual activity in a public lavatory and were fined £235 each.
They are now barred from the intu Victoria Centre, and on top of that they must not enter the intu Broadmarsh Centre or intu Derby centres.
Mr Shepherd told Nottingham Magistrates’ Court that Joyce had been ordered to attend a sex offences group work programme after appearing in court three years ago for indecent exposure.
‘Mr Lowe was last in court in 1979,’ added Mr Shepherd. ‘This offence was for gross indecency.’
Paul McLeod, defending Lowe, said he was bisexual. He also stated that his client was very apologetic and the whole incident had taken a huge toll on him.
“In terms of the situation, it has left him very embarrassed. It was too much and he has been in a psychiatric unit since.”
Some Better Advice
Well, when you look it that way, it may not be as funny as I thought when I discovered the story. The guy has been driven to needing psychiatric care by the embarrassment of the situation. Actually it is quite depressing.
Still it does go to show that sex drive doesn’t go down for every OAP. Yes, that probably would be better used seeing escorts if there is no-one else in their life who will be able to ease that tension, but it is a cause for hope.
Everyone is an individual, so don’t worry that your sex life will evaporate when you hit 60; you may well be fine.
Of course, we hope this guy gets the help he needs.
