When I was a youngster, having online sexual encounters was considered the domain of sexual deviants and those who couldn’t get a girlfriend in real life. These people would sit there typing messages to another person with one hand, and jacking off with the other. To be fair they were a subject of ridicule.
Changing Times
How times change. A recent survey has shown that a third of people have had digital sexual encounters. That means one in three of us have got down and dirty by sending sexts, explicit photos on Snapchat or in chatrooms, or using webcams and videophones.
The most popular form of digital sex was sexting, at 37 per cent. Videophone sex came second at 30 per cent, whilst webcam sex was third with 26 per cent.
6% of people said they interacted digitally with someone who wasn’t their current partner, so it seems that even cheating has gone digital!
The top five reasons for the online sex boom are listed below.
1) Lack of embarrassment more commonly associated with traditional encounters – 26 per cent
2) ‘I am currently in a long-distance relationship and digital encounters keep the passion alive’ – 18 per cent
3) Different work schedules mean lack of time spent together – 14 per cent
4) ‘I don’t enjoy actual sex but I enjoy the thrill and fantasy of digital encounters’ – 11 per cent
5) ‘The person I interact with digitally is not my current partner or spouse and this is the only way we can see and speak to each other’- 6 per cent
Online Sex is Cheating, Apparently
Interestingly, a YouGov poll commissioned by the Huffington Post found 85 per cent of men and women consider sexting to be a form of cheating, whilst Facebooking an ex is thought of poorly also.
It seems to make sense that as we become more reliant on technology, we let the digital world enter our sex lives. I am wondering how long it will be before we actually have robots who are built to fulfill our sexual needs, like Daryl Hannah’s character in Blade Runner?
Many of the Dublin escorts offer online sex or phone sex as one of their services. Why not have a look at their favourites and find out?
Either way, it is safe to say that the days where digital sex was only performed by 40 year old guys who still lived at home with their Mum has been and gone. The world is changing.
As in Terminator, the computers really are taking over!

@ your comment about sex robots, Im pretty sure they are close to that in japan. their normal ones (heh) are pretty amazing already. that will definitely happen in the not to distant future
I think maybe it’s wrong to call it “digital sex” though…
Computers control or at least are involved in so many aspects of our sever day lives, I sincerely hope that they never have any reason to become involved in the intimate contact between two people.
Keep sex analogue! 🙂
