Irish police have reopened an investigation into a sexual assault complaint made by the late sex worker advocate, and our friend, Laura Lee.
Laura had made a statement to police in Dublin about the alleged incident last November. However, the case was closed following her untimely death at the age of 44.
It is now understood that friends of Ms Lee have been contacted by Garda reopening an investigation into the allegation.
A spokesman said it was “not the policy of An Garda Siochana to comment on named individuals”.
Laura, from Dublin, was living in Glasgow at the time of her death.
The name of the accused and the details of the alleged incident can be found on the internet, but won’t be repeated here. It will achieve nothing, and I am not even sure how it would stand up legally.
Still, we are glad that the case is being reopened. Even though she has passed on, she deserves to have this looked at, and the law to take its course.
An Inspiration To Us All
It does remind me just how much we miss her. Her tireless work in support of sex worker all over Ireland and beyond was an inspiration to us all. Despite massive personal criticisms and lies spouted by enemies of sex work, she kept on battling for every man and woman in the industry. If she was here today she would still be fighting the good fight.
Her impact on the escorts industry will never be forgotten, as will the personal relations we enjoyed with her over the years she advertised with us and wrote for our blog. It is for that reason we will keep you up to date on what happens in this case, though will refrain from making any comments on the specifics for obvious reasons
Laura, we miss you every day.
