So we’ve all been there; a quiet day at the office spent fantasising about steamy sexy in the shower with your woman. After watching the minutes slowly pass and the excitement at the thought of ripping her clothes off almost tipping you over the edge, you clock out and head home. You return ready to pleasure her and she decides she has more important needs – usually involving wine, Eastenders, gossip magazines and filing her nails.
There’s a good chance that you have already heard every excuse in the book from partner’s not wanting to have sex. A recent survey polled four thousand adults and collected their most popular excuses used to get out of sex. One in five Brits (this includes us men) regularly make excuses not to have sex. Have you heard the following before?
I have a headache
This is the ultimate phrase that is most often linked with women getting out of sex. However the humble headache’s glory days as the top excuse are over. In fact, the survey noted that this white lie has fallen to the number three spot of the most commonly used excuses. So next time she says she has a headache, offer her some anadin as she may be telling the truth.
I am not in the mood
Meet the second most used excuse. It is true that women don’t think about sex quite as much as us guys, but they also often claim not to be in the mood for it as much. The recession seems to have sparked an increase in the use of this excuse as financial stress and potential job losses are known to be a bit of a mood killer. Four in ten women have said that the recession has caused a dramatic change in their sex life.
I am Tired
This has become the most used excuse. Again, this in linked to the recession and the fact that we are all working longer hours. Seven out of ten Brits, and us guys have said it too, are just too tired after work to have fun. There seems to be less time for sex in our lives. Women can multi-task, so we are sure they could find time to fit a quickie in? However, three quarters of women have admitted that they use this excuse because they can’t be bothered.
The above are the three most common, but there are plenty of others that are used. The other white lies to make the top five were ‘I’ve got to get up early in the morning’ and ‘I’m pre-occupied with work’. Eighteen percent of women make an excuse to avoid sex. Some of the excuses are simply ridiculous and we refuse to except that any sane man would fall for them.
Too soon in our relationship
This excuse made the top ten in the survey. It had us wondering how far in to the relationship does this go before you can call her a liar. If she’s still using this eighteen months down the line, do we assume that something might be up? The good news is, once you’ve had sex with your partner this is one less excuse that can be used. Nevertheless, she may start using others listed below…
I am abstaining
Yes, you have read that correctly. Apparently, a percentage of women admitted that they used abstaining as a way of getting out of sex. They barter with God and promise to give up sex if they get a promotion, win the lottery or lose weight. We are lost for words with this one…
I can hear one of the Children
Well, it has been often said that children ruin the sex life of a couple. Women are known to fret more about their image and the potential awkward situation of a child walking in mid-session. For her, there is the added benefit that you can’t call her out on this, as you were too busy trying to whip your socks off to listen out for the pitter-patter of small feet.
I have my period
I had always thought that was a popular excuse given, and yet it did not make the top ten on the survey. I guess the reality is a boyfriend could pull up his partner on this one, and it isn’t easy to fake. You would have to be really desperate to get out of sex to fake your own period – and we do not want to think about the logistics.
I am having a fat day
Unfortunately, this one may not be a lie. Many women suffer from this problem. When a woman gets it in her head that she’s fat, she will psych herself out of having sex. As mentioned previously, women frequently worry about their image and if you partner feels she is not at her best, she may worry that you no longer find her physically or sexually attractive. All you can do is remind her that you broke the speed limit to get home and have her on the kitchen table – and remember that she’ll be ready for action again in a few days.
Four out of ten women admitted to pretending they were asleep and one in five avoided getting into bed at the same time, just in case sex was suggested. There will always come a time where a reason is used to not have sex, and your partner will not always be lying!
