Dublin Man Convicted of Prolonged Sexual Assault

I usually like to keep the blog quite fun. I want to help make it a place where people come to get away from the stresses of day to day life. Then every now and again I read an article that sickens me to my stomach. It affects me so much I feel I must express my disgust, especially when the article in question regards female security.

Michael Murray, aged 42 and formerly of Killiney Oaks, Killiney, Dublin was convicted of two counts of sexual assault, two counts of rape with a make up pen, attempted vaginal and anal rape, oral rape, aggravated sexual assault, child abduction, threats to kill or cause serious harm, false imprisonment, stealing a bank card and stealing cash from two cash machines between February 12th and 13th in 2010.

The details are shocking. After luring a woman and her young son to his flat, he stated that he would let her son go if she had sex with him. When she refused he threated to kill her. After she broke a bottle and put it to her own throat, he put his hands round her sons throat and threatened to kill him if she didn’t co-operate. He then tied her up, kidnapped her son and dropped him on a city centre street at 11 o’clock at night, before coming home and committing a prolonged sexual assault.

Thankfully this ‘man’ will spend a considerable amount of time behind bars, and women everywhere will be protected from him. But there are many people out there like him, who just seem to enjoy hurting people. What those two victims went through I can’t imagine. It sounds trite to say our prayers are with them, but they are.

The article goes on to mention Mr Murray was an escort agency boss, as if to point out that this is an indicator of some negative characteristics of the guy. Hey, I don’t know if this guy runs an agency or not. One thing I do know is that he is not the kind of guy we want in the industry. He is off the streets now, and not before time.

A Safer Industry

We want an industry where the escorts are safe, secure and are not visited or exploited by animals like this guy. This is why Escort Ireland supports Ugly Mugs schemes around the world including the great work done with uglymugs.ie in Ireland and the UKNSWP who run a “national ugly mugs” scheme for the UK. Escorts can share information about their negative experiences as a means to protect each other.

Sadly that won’t matter to those who are looking to use this man as an indicator of the type of person who is associated with the escort industry. However, this won’t stop us endeavoring to have a positive effect on the lives of the men and women who advertise with us.

That is something I am very proud of.
