Sex, as we all know, is a lot of fun. Still, a recent survey says that a third of young adults are having sex in a way that is causing them injuries.
The survey of 18-24 year olds was done by ‘The Mix’, which is a digital support charity for under 25’s. It consisted of looking at the experiences of 1,012 sexually active people in that age range, and it came up with some very interesting results.
Injuries
When it came to sexual injuries, the most common were pulled muscles, with 31% saying it had happened to them. That ranked just above banging heads with their partners, and bumping into walls which both came in at 30%.
Other injuries included falling out of bed (20%) and suffering burns (19%). By the way, how do you suffer burns during sex? They surely mean carpet burns? If they don’t, I must be more vanilla than I thought!
On top of all this, it seems that there have been other negative consequences of having sex. Some have vomited, whilst others have had sex toys stuck up their bum.
Yes, this is all pretty amusing, but there were also some rather worrying facts detailed. It appears that 5% did not know what STIs are, and 16% said they had a limited understanding of them. In 2018, that is really concerning.
Even more worrying was more than a third (36%) have never been tested for STIs.
Youthful Stupidity
I always thought that youngsters were more clued up than this. However, it seems they have a real laissez-faire attitude to sexual health. Maybe it is the fact that HIV is no longer a death sentence. Where those of us in our 30’s realised that screwing the wrong person may result in death, now some seem to feel that the worst that will happen to them is they need to take some antibiotics. It is short sighted and stupid.
That is the serious part. As for the first bit regarding sexual injuries, just take more bloody care!
