[QUOTE=SteveB;1542537]"A lot may depend on how much media coverage the story gets in Britain".
The story is getting a lot of coverage in the national British press.
In the past similar bigoted comments from various parties about diverse subjects such as escorting, paying for sex, Sunday working, abortion rights and homosexuality etc. stayed in Northern Ireland and stayed in the local press.
However this time it hasn’t and there is a real possibility Jim Wells will lose his job.
It is not just a question of a bigoted remark.
He made an assertion that is factually and demonstrably not true, that is "[B]ring a child up in a homosexual relationship[,] [t]hat child is far more likely to be abused and neglected...."
If he does lose his job, it will (hopefully) send a signal to all the parties, perhaps all the parties on the island, that such untrue and prejudiced remarks are unacceptable and voicing them will have consequences.[/QU
I hope so...
