    Other than Gaelteach areas there are no fluent speakers but it seems to be on the rise again

    I'm still tryin to work out what a langue is ?

    Do they sing about it on New Year's Eve?
    Are we there yet ?

    Few fluent speakers.

    Even fewer competent spellers. Especially in Belfast.

    My experience is that we resented it, as it was forced upon us. “What job can you get from it? A postman in the Gaeltacht.”
    Everyone saw it as a necessary evil. It should be optional and not just the language thought but also Gaelic culture and history and mythology. If kids got into the myths first I bet they would be more likely than develope a passion for the language. Right now all there is, is resentment. Same when I was a kid.

    Agreed, was on the bus here in Dublin a while back and heard a chap having a full blown conversation in Irish over the phone. Real impressed with that tbh
