I have an adorable nephew who I absolutely love he is hilarious he genuinely believes that he is a ninja I simply believe that he is suicidal and I caught myself saying to him “oh yeah, go on jump off the wall But don’t run crying to me when you’ve broken your two legs”

When we were little myself and my sisters used to be terrible and make fun of our mum because every single day at breakfast or dinner without fail she would bang her hand on the table and shout “manners at the table” and we would be in stitches, we would always be like “ ok how long will it take her to shout it and who will cause her to shout it”

Christmas dinner used to be particulary funny Myself and one sister in particular were awful Messers and we used to drive our poor mother mental, God love her and she would end up roaring “manners at the table” and banging her hand on the table so hard . . . We were brats and would be laughing our heads off

Fast forward 20 years or so sitting at the table with my sisters and about 100 kids (ok slight exaggeration)

kids playing “sea (see) food” And I suddenly banged my hand on the table and roared “manners at the table!!!!!!!”

the second I had done it my heart just skipped a beat and my sister and I just looked at each other, the transition was complete, I have officially turned into my mother (minus the hooker bit of course!!!!!!!! )

Jenny I'm not even gonna attempt that, the only Irish we learned at primary/national school was the Our Father and Hail Mary.

The Christian Brothers did try to beat some gaeilge into me at secondary school but that's a long long time ago.

There does seem to be more interest in our national language nowadays up here, even in Loyalist areas.

And I can't work out the toaster either.

They've all got Irish passports now too
Dispite voting Brexit they still want to be able to move freely around Europe

If a unity referendum was based on how many people up here identified as Irish through their passports we'd have a united Ireland in the morning

Dieve I totally agree with you about the conversation bit, okay it might not be for every guy but it certainly is for all my clients and it’s one of my favourite parts of the job finding out about clients lives and jobs or clients from different countries what their childhood was like, I just find it all so interesting,

You know that I am a fan of yours and I’m not having a dig at you but why would you bother putting your nationality down as Irish you just seem so much more interesting and exotic and you always post the most brilliant thought-provoking trades here, you are who you are it’s almost makes you seem less interesting if you stay at you are Irish ha ha, If I’m not mistaken English is your first language anyway and you clearly speak English better than most of us here But I will just throw this out here do you not ever think that if you are regularly changing your nationality guys might think that you have something to hide? "I accept all nationalities, your flag is just a small part of who you are."

It's not verbatim and she did remove it at some point (probably should have checked if it was back in...)

Anyway, I loved that. In an industry where you often see sections of the population excluded she specifically said where you're from isn't important, who you are is.

I take her changing of nationalities as an extension of that. It doesn't matter if she's Irish Dieve or North Korean Dieve, or Icelandic Dieve or Neptunian Dieve; it's not the adjective that's important, it's the noun; it's not the nation it's the individual. She is uniquely Dieve and that's what really matters.

It’s misleading to fly under a certain flag if there is an expectation raised that it is important to the caller that you are a certain nationality. Advertising as being of a certain country in that own country qualifies. If one is advertising as Irish there may well be an expectation that there are shared reference points and cultural touchstones. Especially given conversation is deemed important.

For the record excessive nationalism is one of the major blights that has impacted our world in last 80 years. I’ve seen it up close and personal in all its murderous aftermath. It shows no signs of abating either but in this context I would not be too dismissive of it. No one likes seeing their national identity being appropriated however innocent or well meaning that appropriation is.

I know this is controversial but I make no apologies for saying this I think it is a very brave woman who will accept all nationalities,

I am not going to mention a certain culture but I certainly do not accept all nationalities and I believe that I have good reason not,

A very good friend of mine accepted, I won’t even call him a gentleman, a dragged up thing from one of these cultures because she believed that he had been westernised he sent her his graduation photo from Trinity, a very handsome man, et cetera et cetera and he turned out to be absolutely horrible to her and assaulted her spat at her and more, laughed at her, I know you can’t tar everyone with the same brush but there is absolutely no way I would take a chance, and anyhow if that ever were to happen to me I would be up for MURDER

I think part of the problem is it can't be left blank.
