Angry The Trade Union Movement 'Support' For TORL

Does anyone know if any trade union supporting this proposed clear and unambiguous horrific abuse of workers has actually passed a motion through a democratic vote of all its members after an informed debate including contributions from current active sex workers!
A friend of mine who sees through the insanity says his public sector trade union did send around a leaflet asking if any member had an issue with their insane stance!
Mind you, he did nothing and that as I keeping saying is all that's necessary for evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing!
There is little doubt that the trade union movement in Ireland has prostituted private sector workers' rights in any case! They are (at top levels) a disgusting disgrace and it's no surprise they would support an insane TORLER agenda!
As I also have got accustomed to saying, No punter will die as a consequence of the passing of the Paddy Model, it's very foreseeable a sex worker will!
Mind you no access to companionship could be a contributory factor in declining health for some punters!

Trade unions don't have much time for self-employed people. Plus the "ILO" (a United Nations body) is anti.

(but even some of the ILO sees that it is an industry with workers who need legal rights. From 2003:

Then presumably someone said "cop yourself on, there's nothing in this for us". Some union bosses here are paid over 100,000 pa -

comparing well with UK unions who have many more members

    Mmmm-hmm

The ILO have a neutral stance on sex work:
    https://feministire.wordpress.com/ta...-consultation/

And their latest report shows really how much they recognise sex as work. Pretty good stuff.

If you watch the Committee hearings on sexual violence - David Norris asks the ICTU bureaucrat how they reached the decision to support TORL and she admitted sheepishly that it was something decided amongst the higher-ups.

I drafted the Independent Workers Union (IWU) stance on sex work which got passed two years ago. It recognises sex work as work. They are not part of ICTU though.

I always go on ICTU May day marchs with a red umbrella and a sign supporting sex workers every year to see if I'd get a reponse.

Too many NGOs are afraid to make a stance when they leave TORL or won't leave at all even if they want to - as they are so afraid of losing their funding. I always think if ICTU were to make a stance they'd be the less likely to see repercussions.

There is a lot less democracy in this country than we might like to think.

The more I look into the subject of proposed criminalisation, the dirtier and more dishonest it gets.

    2014 in Northern Ireland:

Number of reported attacks on sex workers 70

Number of sex trafficking cases ZERO

Wow, didn't know that Catriona. I actually indirectly (through work) know the Secretary of the IWU and wasn't aware that he was prepared to stand up for sex workers' rights. If only the other trade unions would follow suit:
