Red Bull have applied for an extra 200g in the maximum weight allowance of car + full fuel + driver package .... they need it for the extra rubber tread on the drivers' shoes so they can get out and push without slipping ....

Wow next week is the first race weekend. I am really excited for this season it seems like a more even playing field now with all the regulation changes. Nice to see Red Bull struggling with testing as they normally have the best updates on their car every season with Adrian Newey.

I think realistically in Melbourne it is a race between four teams.
The four teams that run Mercedes power-plants. Mercedes, Williams, McLaren and Force India.
Lewis Hamilton must be the favourite. His natural racing talent is beyond question, but his temperament is suspect and he has had problems in the past managing less than ideal or sick cars.
 His team mate Nico Rosberg is usually slightly slower but has a much better temperament and would manage a malfunctioning car better.
Jenson Button is easily the most technically proficient driver with regard to racing lines and throttle control of his generation. He must be another contender. [Of course there is a lot more to winning races than technical proficiency. Schumacher and Alonso being examples of drivers who are not very technically proficient on paper].
Sergio Perez Outside chance. Possible up-and-coming star.
Felipe Massa Guy who came very close to winning a championship, and with his talent and temperament should have won at least one. His chance seems to have gone. Would be a popular winner at Melbourne, but I can’t see it.

Whole thing could of course be a shambles with poor reliability with the new engines and the added problem of rain. It could be more about endurance and keeping running more than racing. Too chaotic to call. But if I had to put money on one driver, it would be Lewis Hamilton.

Williams is a good outside bet they know what's what with a v4 engine and turbos and have to be in with a shout as for McLaren Ron Dennis is back at the helm look at McLaren since he stepped down
    Can't wait for the start

Mercedes dominate the free practice sessions. Team orders could be interesting on Sunday..
