How could clients constructively work with police to combat any potential abuse within the escort industry that clients might become aware of, if indeed you think there are grounds for clients to engage with police here?

Best system, and only system that would work, is a system where an escort (and a client for that matter) feels they have the full protection of the law. A system where the law is there to protect them, not to harass and even prosecute them.

But for that to work, the initiative needs to come from law enforcement themselves and the government.

So how do you think that would play out for the Gardaí if it got out that the confidential number wasn't confidential? They rely on members of the public for so much critical information and if they were to betray them then their phone line would be as good as dead. As for wanting to find out who contacted them, do you not think that they can also trace your IP and find out who you are by getting that info on the Uglymugs website, before anyone says that UM is out of the country blah blah blah, well the IPS's aren't and they can track you.

Just curious how a client would know a girl if was trafficked? If she told him, she would be beaten up or killed. If a client had suspicions and went to the cops then he would cause the girl a lot of trouble whether he was right or wrong. Too tough to call when we know nothing about how the escort business works. Presume the cops and media are trawling through this site on a daily basis looking for a good story so they might spot something suspicious from a profile ?

If punters can't tell how could a journalist?

It's a great question though. You can put a link saying if you suspect trafficking call this number if you like, but it's useless if we don't know when we should suspect it. I see things which strike me as suspicious such as opting out of reviews, fake pics, low prices, the exact same paragraph appearing in two different profiles for different girls, but I've never done anything about it, because what do I know really? But maybe everyone is thinking like that and nothing is getting reported.

If you report a suspicion that an escort is acting under coercion and it turns out she is not, you would be causing an innocent escort a lot of trouble.

Best way, and I know it is not easy, would be to try to persuade the girl herself to go to the authorities.

But if she is under coercion… And the worst coercion is psychological. This is subtle and hard to detect.

The only way this would work is for the industry to be regulated, that way there could be no abuse and genuine escorts would not be victims of attempts to damage their business. Client contact with the police is the reverse model, if the industry was regulated with escorts registered then the police (Gardai) will quickly know what is time wasting and what is genuine concern, until that happens any client contact with the police can be abused and cause more difficulty for genuine escorts than it might solve. Furthermore, despite any promised anonymity, just look at how the police here use the media to prosecute their suspects, the Sunday world would have a field day outing clients who had anonymously contacted Gardai, and genuine clients would not challenge it so it would quickly become a staple diet for the media, through "sources".

I THINK THIS IS A FANTASTIC IDEA, IF YOU WANT TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR PRIVACY LIFE
, BUT REALLY WANT TO HELP, Vodafon CARD COSTS 10. € ORDER TO CALL AND REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS SITUATION, WHICH GO AGAINST AN ESCORT.

    SIMPLY MY OPINION.

Its a good idea, if there was a way to filter biased or false reports. What would stop the pimp who traffics causing trouble for independents. The only system that will work is decriminalisation, failing that the authorities need to make it safe and easy for a girl to come forward herself. Having done so there should be a clear exit strategy in place for the trafficked person.

I cannot understand why it has not been decriminalised. Surely consenting adults should be able to arrange a mutually satisfactory arrangement so that both parties are comfortable with no fear of legal interference. this would leave the law too deal with people who trafiic and also protect the escorts from clients who cause trouble. Surely this is common sense or am I being naive and stupid
