As someone in their 20s, most people I know, girls and fellas have a good idea of graft and hard work.

Tbf there are a good few saps about the place. I think they give all of us a bad name

A big thing I find that a lot of people my age don't understand is saving money. They seem to think ah sure you go out for a few pints, take away coffee and a pastry every morning, spotify, netflix and the likes. Then shocked when they have nothing left at the end of the month. the little stuff all adds up

Like if you budget right you can enjoy yourself. I have enough to punt, pay my car finance plan, rent and even treat the missus the odd night to take out and still have some quid left at the end of the month to go into savings

This is so true, but I’ll admit that when it came to finances and budgeting, or, heaven forbid, mortgages and taxation, I had ZERO clue in my twenties!!

I don’t understand why this isn’t actually a leaving cert subject because financial budgeting and planning for the future is so essential in life.

Gawd, they used to have an ATM beside the jacks in coppers, it was the ruin of me, I’d wake up on a Sunday morning, find an ATM reciept and be genuinley baffled as to how it stated my balance to be €1.72 . . .

I've been lucky enough to be in a position to pay into a pension, and save from the time I started properly working.

But the "problem with the younger generation" is the exact same thing as people giving out about people in council houses having a big telly, or sky sports.

The reason I saved, outside of being in a position to, was the belief that I needed to, in order to buy a house. If the prospect of ever being able to do that is gone, I probably wouldn't have bothered my bollox either. I'd have used my money to do enjoyable things then (holidays, bigger telly, nicer car) because the future pay-off is an impossibility.

Also, they are going to be working until they are over 70 anyway, so the incentive to save for a pension, so you can afford to go nice places is also pretty remote when your body is fucked and the place you want to go to will be on fire anyway during the nicer months.

I used to rummage for the receipts with the high Available funds on the end

When I'd give a girl my no I'd write it on the back of a receipt with 10k in my account..... even tho I only had minus £200

My thoughts exactly ISB. I have seen me having to park on the white line because some inconsiderate prick has parked over their line.

And don't get me started on BMW drivers who take up 2 parking spaces so nobody will scratch their paint work ! Now they really are cnuts!

But still, I pocket the keys.

I actually witnessed some one parking the other day that had parked on the line, opened their door to check, gave a half-assed shrug and just got out. I don't understand, it's like 5 seconds to reverse and straighten out so you don't fuck the next person...
