If you use a trimmer you can get the ‘borders’ to a reasonable length. Then shave the balls, shaft, ass etc.

I'm right there with you. Shaved and trimmed on the front side, don't necessarily trust myself on the backside. I have often thought laser hair removal might be the answer for the ass (I'm not even really into ass play that much, just seems like life might be easier in general ).
