    I think I know people like that. 15 minutes WAS probably the short version.

    English is full of "grating expressions" that there is no simple non-grating expressions for. I think we can sometimes be forgiven for using them because of that reason.

    Less forgivable, perhaps, are grating expressions that there are common substitutes for, or grating expressions that are not needed at all.

    Very unique. Something is or isn't unique. It's a binary.

    Or anything written by estate agent. A bullshit language, where every word has a different meaning than established English. Bijou/Boutique/Cosy= Tiny. Rustic/Has Charm/Original Features= a shit hole that needs about €100k put into to it to make it livable, Within walking distance of = you can practice for next year's marathon every day, and so on.

    (Can you tell I'm looking for a house at the moment)

    Using the word disinterested when they mean uninterested and vice versa.

    Uniqueness is a commodity now, just like everything else.
    There are degrees.

    AGGGHHHHHH. I'd forgotten about that one. Always winds me up when I see it.

    a) If you're the type of person to have to be told to treat anyone with respect, some random punter isn't going to have much impact on you;
    b) what you're really saying is 'I' treated her with respect, which always makes me think they don't treat everyone they meet like that so had to mention it.

    Thanks for bringing that up and annoying me on a wet Thursday!
