We shouldn’t have been there so long ;
We bet on the wrong ‘horse’ in Afghan society .
I am dumbfounded at such atrocious miscalculation , misreading of
local sentiment , lack of ‘on the ground’ intelligence or misinterpreting of info —
or plain Magical Thinking .
My heart just sank when I heard Jalalabad gave in without a single shot fired .
Sunday morning ( our time ) Taliban was still some 30 miles ( kms ? ) from Kabul .
By that evening they were at the gates . My sorrow is bottomless for the women
and girls ;
In meantime do Not forget it was TFG that made the ‘Deal’ with the Taliban ;
TFG had made a deal with the Taliban and not included the Afghan govt in it .
He pressured for the release of Abdul Ghani Baradar - who sat 10 yrs in jail -
- and is now poised to become the next Afghan ‘president’ .
TFG had pressured for the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners - who readily and
swiftly joined up with the rest . Do Not forget that .
Biden had not much choice but to see it through . —- but my God what an
absolute clusterFx ill prepared mismanaged pathetic show for America to
replay a ‘Saigon-style’ harried headless withdrawal , scrambling to save its
own citizens while abandoning the many Tens of Thousands of locals who
had been integral to US / Coalition forces to even be alive ! To make any dent !
All the Interpreters who saved countless coalition lives ; members of security ;
and all their families :: now they are actively being Hunted by the Taliban :
: despite proclaiming their ‘peaceful’ intentions and promises of no reprisals ,
in May ( June ? ) they have hunted down and Beheaded a former Interpreter
who assisted the US .
This withdrawal and the abandonment of our local allies is such stain on our
Nation , a generation of tears and good deeds wouldn’t and won’t wash it away .
How could Anyone ever trust us !? It is a tragedy on so many levels , my heart is breaking .
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

And the American forces made short work of them. Frightening attitude to human life you have. Maybe you think the bacha bazi should throw down their lives against the Taliban? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacha_bazi

The challenging thing now is what does this mean for the future of the world? The Taliban never really disassociated themselves from Al Queada will they now rise their head again and will we have large terrorism incidents all over the world a thing which luckily in last few years we havent had on a large scale with mostly isolated incidents
Afghanistan is going to be so dysfunctional as you will still have huge internal struggles tribal and otherwise
Which will be an ideal breeding ground for extremist groups not to mention what will the reaction of the likes of Iran be to the new landscape
Worrying times ahead I think.
