An Interview With... American Kate!

It has been quite a while since our last interview, we are proud to announce today the re-release of our first of many more interview to come. Floki has graciously managed to spare some time to sit down with the advertisers so that you can get to know what makes them tick!

Kate has been extremely patient, kind and responsive throughout to ensure that you guys don´t miss out on any details.

She does not need any more of an introduction so here it is folks...

FLOKI: Hi Kate, I just want to start off by thanking you for taking the time to do this interview with us.
KATE: Thank you, I´m happy to.
FLOKI: First question. When did you first arrive to Ireland and what was your first thought of the country? How does it differ from your homeland?
KATE: I first came here in 2008, my first thought of the country was, how much I felt I belonged here. In America, sometimes I would be cracking too many jokes or people would say I was being too wild at the party. So coming to Ireland I felt like I fit right in with the banter and the mighty “craic”.
FLOKI: So the U.S are not so used to your sense of humour
KATE: I guess so, I think they couldn´t tell if I was being serious or not. My sarcasm made them scared.
FLOKI: You probably realised the British and Irish sense of humour is quite dark compared to other places.
KATE: Yeah, I think my sarcasm scared them.
FLOKI: Well they have lost someone…
KATE: Those lucky Irish, they are even luckier now.
FLOKI: Yes they are!

FLOKI: Is there any special place you would recommend someone to visit when they visit Ireland?
KATE: I mean, the whole country is so beautiful but I´d say particularly West Cork is really special, really stunning beauty there.
FLOKI: I have never been to Cork myself, I have been to Ireland a few times. Mainly the north as I have some family there but I was born in Britain.
KATE: You have got to go to Cork, Cork is awesome! Can´t get enough Cork on the forKate:
FLOKI: Cork is your favourite then?
KATE: Yes, West Cork is really beautiful, but Cork City is really cool too.
FLOKI: I will have a look into it.

FLOKI: What do you miss most about your country of origin?
KATE: What I miss the most are the hot summers, super hot, seedy summers. You know, thunderstorms, lightning bugs, the fact that I can be scantily clad as much as I want and just feel like I have a smile on my face.
FLOKI: I do enjoy thunderstorms myself, I used to go and watch them all the time.

FLOKI: Having a chance to work in different countries, which has been your favourite so far?
KATE: Lets see, I have to say Australia because I was working in a place where sex work was decriminalized, so that was just really relaxing and it was really nice to know I was working in a place where I felt like everybody involved had more respect and where the culture expected our existence, to enjoy each others company.
FLOKI: That is nice, I wish it would be more like that in Ireland.
KATE: Definitely, we are going to fight to go in that direction, but we know the challenges we are up against there.

FLOKI: Onto another topic. Why did you decide to do escorting as your main job?
KATE: So I was working for Greenpeace in New York City, it was just so challenging; Really long hours, a really stressful environment and I met this girl there and we immediately had an affinity for each other. The first time we locked eyes, I see this joyful little wicked look in her eye, and we became friends immediately and she said “You know this job is hard. If you want to come work somewhere else with me, you will probably enjoy it more, make more money and you get to hang out with sexy women all day.”
So that was in a fetish house in New York City; So that was the beginning of my prostitution career, if you will. I worked in all different kinds of ways, I worked in BDSM dungeon as we call it, I worked in a wrestling house; Where all we did was wrestle. I have worked in strip clubs; I did full service out-calls in hotels and stuff like that. That was the main way that I ´segwayed´; I think for me its such a nice break from the rest of the world, its such a nice relief in your life to put everything a-side and to just immediately interact with somebody who might be a complete stranger, in a way that is so intimate and honest.
FLOKI: Straight from green peace to this! That's quite a change but I can see you're happy and that’s important.
KATE: Yes, saving the world in a different way.

FLOKI: Next question then. Has advertising online always been your way of getting to know clients? Do you think there are any other safe way for you to make your appointments?
KATE: Yeah, so when I worked in houses like in New York City, that way people would make appointments or be walk-ins. They would come in and sit in a consultation room and we would each go and have a little chat with them, and they would pick whoever they felt they had the most rapport with. Here in Ireland its mainly the advertising; Now the other way that I can talk about is something that you can be quite successful at but you have to be really careful, that is what we call freestyling; That’s basically when you discreetly striking up conversations with people absolutely anywhere. That could be in a bar, it could be in a club or in a shop. What is handy about Ireland is that people are so chatty and good with the banter, there generally is a way of (if your already engaged in a conversation with somebody) to transition into a sexy little suggestion.
FLOKI: I have seen in TV shows and movies, where a woman will be in the house and the man will turn up and talk to them, the men will then walk into another room. I thought that was just TV but I guess it does happen, I am remembering now the 'Sons of Anarchy' tv show.
KATE: It can be a fun way to work but it’s a bit more of a wild-west feeling to it. Old School probably.

FLOKI: If you had not entered the world of escorting, what kind of work would you have been doing or would have enjoyed doing?
KATE: Well I am a performer, I sing, I dance; You know I have award winning comedy musicals, where I sing, pole dance, laugh and tell jokes.
FLOKI: Well I actually seen, I think you were on the Graham Norton Show. I vaguely remember you released a song around that time also.
KATE: Yeah, “Hey Lady” it was called. So that’s my passion and that’s where I feel most at home, if you will, on the stage. I still find that I make shows about escorting, because not only do I think its important for people to hear what its like for us and to break up people stereotypes about us but also there is so much bother in this industry for funny jokes and imagery that people are certainly drawn to. I´ve done these shows all over the world, got 4 star reviews in Edinburgh, I´ve won awards in San Diego; I will be doing my next show in San Diego in June. I love performing my shows.
FLOKI: Great answer, it doesn't help the stereo types when you have groups like Ruhama bringing up these statistics and numbers, people start to believe them so we need more people who can stand up for this industry; Hopefully people will realise its not as bad as its made out and not everyone is trafficked.
KATE: I should say, its was the Brendan O´Connor show that you were talking about, but I actually love the Graham Norton Show. I actually ran into him when I was working at a hotel, in Dublin one time. I chased him into the elevator and gave him a badge about a song that I wrote about contraception called “Pull the fuck out”. I should say actually when I was in Australia, remember I was working there and I liked it because it felt more normal and relaxed and a supportive environment because it was decriminalised but I was working in a strip club and taking full service clients on the side, I was in Australia because I was doing one of my shows there and there was like a whole group of us performing and the festivals but also doing sex work on the side so that was a fun little, underbelly of a community. My new show is a stand up hip-hop called “Hookers do it standing up”.
FLOKI: That’s a good title. It will definitely raise some eyebrows.
KATE: Its great isn´t it.

FLOKI: Do you remember your first encounter and how did it go?
KATE: Oh my gosh. I think for a lot of us in the industry, there are really a few things to consider, that I could call my first encounter, also there were people for a period of time, suggesting that I should charge money and trying to give me money. That was happening for a while before I decided to get smart and do that. I would say that my first client in the fetish house, after I left Greenpeace. He was a guy that just wanted to watch me put on lipstick and say the word “pussy” over and over again; He had a fetish for that, so that is what we did. I then said “Damn! I can do this” and immediately I thought it was really interesting work: Never a dull day.

FLOKI: Interesting is definitely the right word for this.
On that note: What has to be the more memorable gift you have ever received from a punter?
KATE: You know what, I think the best gift that I can mention, has to be a dehumidifier that a client gave me.
FLOKI: That I did not expect.
KATE: Because it helps me in Ireland. Ireland is so damp that I swear of all the lovely and wonderful gifts clients have given me, I think the dehumidifier was the best; Now I just breathe freely. It was a great gift too, it was just so thoughtful.
FLOKI: Your answer is completely different than what I expected.
KATE: Well a client took me to a shoe store in London that specialises in really small feet. It´s called “Pretty small shoes” or something; So that’s my two-part answer, they have all small sizes and he took me there and I bought 4 pairs of shoes so that was amazing so that would probably by the first but the second is the dehumidifier as it really saved my life.

FLOKI: Interesting...
Okay then, so what has been the strangest request you have been asked to do and did you complete the request?
KATE: Oh my gosh. Ooooh Floki! I got to choose my words!
FLOKI: I don't know if I am ready for this one.
KATE: You know what was something that was so strange? There was this guy and he wanted me to wear a mini-skirt and high heels and he lay on the ground in front of me. I had to put my foot on his cock and pump my foot up and down; I had to make the car noises and look like I was steering. I then had to pretend like I was running over stuff in the road….That’s what he wanted me to do.

FLOKI: What a strange request, so you had to drive the car?
KATE: Yeah and we had to be running over stuff with sound effects and everything. I definitely did it because that shit is hilarious! I even had a guy too, who liked to play the paypig. He used to hide money around the room, and we would play the game “Hot and Cold” I would run around just finding the money and then he left.
FLOKI: I think I may enjoy doing that, whats his number?
KATE: He was a great client.

FLOKI: With the new laws (such as the Nordic Model) that have been introduced into Ireland, how do you feel that it had affected your work?
KATE: So, you might know that I am the director of the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland; I have to say I think the way that the Nordic Model has affected me the most is that we have gotten so busy at SWAI, helping other girls with more challenging and stressful situations, that I haven't gotten to escort as much as I want to since it came in. We have just been so busy, doing whatever we can to help girls with the challenges they are facing now and also fighting against this law in the government, the media and in society that I am not getting to do as much actual escorting as I love to do. I miss it, so when I tour those boys better get in there!
FLOKI: That’s a shame as I'm aware this law has not really helped. In the 5 years I have been working here now I have noticed a change since the law has been introduced.
KATE: It's absolutely the worst. Ireland used to have the biggest red-light district in the Europe. 17,000 sex workers in Dublin…I think this was the 1700´s. I am not saying it was perfectly safe for them in that time but they were accepted in society; Then when the church came in and started to put them in Magdalene Laundries and saying how they were either horrible fallen women, criminals or in need of being rescued, that is when violence escalated against them, that’s when people got the sense that these are women you can treat poorly. It’s such a shame, it has to go the other direction, and I think culturally it is going to the other direction. When you speak to young people particularly, when you talk to taxi drivers and you know “regular people”, They get it. Of course, people need human rights, global rights.

FLOKI: I think people are a lot more open minded these days in general.
KATE: We are just doing the work of insisting that our voices be heard, because they can say whatever they want, they do, and they lie. They spin the story and distort reality. Unfortunately, these anti prostitution laws go right in line with right-wing policies that are spreading around the world now and so these anti-prostitution people are just getting into bed with far-right politicians and therefore have so much power.

FLOKI: Well let's hope we can turn things around soon.
KATE: Yeah, that’s the work that SWAI is doing and it's been really exciting you know; Due to the unfortunate circumstances of the law, there have been so many more people getting in touch with us and you know, we hold drop-ins so people can come and meet each other, we do a lot of work on the ground just helping people in emergency situations however we can but its also just starts to create a bit of a community with people who feel like they can support each other.

FLOKI: Do you hear much from male escorts?
KATE: The thing is, we know there is so many. I think they work in very different ways, a lot of the time. They have different ways of advertising in different circles, but we do talk to male escorts and certainly a lot of trans escorts. That’s the thing, people sort of ignore there existent at all, don´t they?

FLOKI: That’s the thing, I rarely here Ruhama mention males, its only about women. Males and trans are also trafficked!
KATE: Its condescending and contradicting that women need to be rescued and men can take care of themselves.

FLOKI: OK so on another topic. Do you have a favourite that you personally enjoy or if you prefer to do? And if you were only able to perform 1 favourite from your list, which would you choose?
KATE: Okay, so I have heard clients before describe me as a PSE, GFE, natural sub. So we all know what that means, “Porn star experience”, “Girlfriend experience”, naturally “submissive”. Now if I was only able to perform one favourite, I would have to say “rimming giving”.
FLOKI: I haven’t really been on that side of the coin before, so I don’t really know. Maybe I will find someone.

FLOKI: So, is there a particular dress or lingerie that your clients like to see you in? What is your favourite outfit to where?
KATE: I mean a lot of them, seem to like me in stockings and suspenders, garter belt, that old combination. Maybe because I have such a cute ass. I also get asked to wear latex and leather boots.
FLOKI: I know what I like, stockings are quite sexy with suspenders. I always call it the wedding underwear, it looks silky.
KATE: Yeah guys really do like white! Does it have to do with some sort of fantasy of a slutty wedding?
FLOKI: Depending on my moods!
KATE: I vary a lot between my moods and outfits, I can go from fun dirty to an extremely elegant which I love to play that role also. Yoga pants is something I get asked for a lot.
FLOKI: What has been your best moment so far in escorting?
KATE: That’s a tough one! Being on national TV for a year on the docu-drama RTE series “Connected” and being able to say that I am proud to be an escort and that the world should respect us and thank us for creating such a freeing moment of pleasure.

FLOKI: Great answer.
What is your ideal client or your ideal date?
KATE: I mean he would be polite, he would have a good sense of humour, he would have impeccable oral and over-all hygiene (because I love to kiss)…You know, I like all kinds of dates, but a dinner date is really fun; You meet, you have a drink, you go back and have some fun. Then you go to dinner, get a really nice dinner, then you go to a really nice show or swimming. Then you go back and have some more fun, that kind of long event can be really nice. Of course, if I can say frankly, because I came from America, its always appreciated if the client does tip. I know its not always accepted the way it is in America but it’s a really nice gesture.

FLOKI: If someone asked you to be your apprentice and learn all you know, what would you teach them?
KATE: Oh no, I cannot give away all my secrets! I think like I say that kind of jokingly but its also the fact is that if any girl came to me asking about escort, I would help them so much, I really would you know. I think it’s a great thing we can do is to help each other out, certainly help each other stay safe and more than that, I feel like the best thing I could to help, this little baby hooker if you will, is to learn the best way to participate and engage in this industry its by being the best version of herself and encouraging her to create a space where its an oasis for her as well; its like I go to work and it puts me in a good mood because I feel like I’m just being the version of myself and being able to block out the rest of the world. I think the more than girls can really make the work enjoyable for them the longer they will want to be in the industry and the more they will get out of it and the better they will be at it.

FLOKI: I would be happy to take advice from yourself, if I was to join the industry as you seem very experienced and you know this so well.
KATE: I would of course tell them everything I know.
FLOKI: If you're happy in that environment, the safer you probably will also feel.
KATE: When a client comes to us for the first time, I think its better that we look at: “Is this somebody I want as a client”. Men should feel as comfortable coming to us as possible but for the girl its better that we think that they is auditioning for us. Is this somebody that’s bringing joy into my day? That’s the best thing we can do for ourselves as escorts. Keep people around us that we really enjoy.

FLOKI: If it helps the other person to feel better and perform better then it's only a positive.
Now, a bit off topic but do you have a bucket list and what is included in it?
KATE: I would love to be part of a floating brothel; That was like a floating brothel co-op. So its like a boat brothel that all the girls run, we would gave really good bouncers, who are kind with us and threatening to everybody else; They would have a good sense of humour, we would be on this boat together where we would entertain clients, put on shows. I think that would be amazing.

FLOKI: I am assuming you would want the bouncer to know how to swim also?
(both laugh)

KATE: The other thing on my bucket list, as you can see, I don’t receive anal on my favourites. So that’s my anal virginity, maybe I should auction that off.
FLOKI: I have seen people auction their virginity before, even I have thought of doing that. People laughed.
KATE: Or, what I could do is like a train. We could line guys up from smallest to biggest (because I obviously have to create the right conditions for me to do this); I have a feeling I would be obsessed with it once I do so I need to make a plan. Are there are definite no-goes in your service?
KATE: I mean I offer covered services, but I suppose it's like see the answer above. I only don't offer anal, because I have not set up the auction or the train yet!
FLOKI: So that is on your no list?
KATE: Maybe not for long. As I said, I think I may become obsessed with it as I do love ass-play.

KATE: That’s a sweet question, isn´t it? Yeah I do have a cheerful disposition so I love when clients and I can chat and laugh together; I like if people feel free to communicate well with me during a booking; I, like any girl, like tips or even like if somebody happens to know how much I like music or reggae music, maybe they give me tickets to a reggae show. I never had any issues with clients not showing up on time, so I thankfully don´t need to say like clients that show up on time.

FLOKI: Do you have a favourite reggae artist?
KATE: Oooh.
FLOKI: I don’t listen to much reggae, I am more of a rock guy.
KATE: I mean I love Pulse, Jah9, a female artist. I love Koffee, another female artist. Cuddling with my dog Romeo, corn on the cob and Dom Perignon.
FLOKI: I have never heard of these.
KATE: It's fun for me if a client can enjoy the vibes I set in the room and I find that they do. I like getting a massage, Floki; That makes me smile.
FLOKI: And now for our final question.
If there something you could tell all of your established and potential clients, what would it be?
KATE: Ooooh. I mean I think there is one or two that continue to show appreciation to all these escorts on this site and all the women in their lives; Women are so beautiful, strong and patient and to show the appreciation for that is so important for us. I also want to tell them how much I look forward to seeing each of them uniquely. Its so different with every single client, sometimes I give them a compliment and they say “You say that to all the guys”, I reply “No, I find something else nice to say that is also true”. I just so look forward to them coming and us having this super, hot enjoyable fun time together. I get so happy that they leave my room feeling a better man.

FLOKI: Appreciation is always nice to be given, so that’s a positive.
