Thread: A question for the Mods?

Mate, you just said you don't do that. You said you ban, keep an eye on them when they re-register. There's a difference. That's the issue. If you do the crime why not do the time. ✌️

Even if this person does come back from a ban (if banned in the first place), then I shall ban them again and keep banning and banning until that person gives up trolling.
And you have missed my point!!
We are here to enjoy the forums, not be some sort of informants for the mods. We should not need to report them if they are obvious Trolls. Both you and the Nightshift moderators have visited his profile page before I logged in this morning. In his first few posts he took a dig at several of the regular posters here. Now that should set off alarm bells.

It all depends on that person and what may have been done or said.
I have had to ban serious trolls and then keep banning their new accounts.
There are some which we have decided to let things slide, but noted down for all the mods to keep track on.

I hear ya. And I do appreciate how maddening it must be for you to deal with this crap. Thanks for responding. I appreciate your keeping an eye on them, and good if the punishment is a real deterrent to stamp out the online crap we all dislike. Banter is one thing, bullying is another. Can be hard to distinguish sometimes I guess. Good when people help you by reporting issues, like you suggested.

I once heard that this place was like the wild west waaaaaay before most of our times, think 1999 til 2004 or something
perhaps its time for the same approach? people grow thicker skins (htfu) and deal with it, and save the moderating for actual serious breaches of privacy, its time you went back to a kid gloves approach I think. yous are actually losing the run of this place now. the strick teacher approach just doesnt cut it with adults, its patronising and inflames situations from what I can see.

you can keep some of the people happy all of time, you can keep all the people happy some of the time...but you cant keep all the people happy all of the time

    Shalom/salaam.
10,000 years of Middle Eastern civilisation and the place is not at peace but rather in pieces.

I think people should report stuff they notice through the proper channels.
theres usually a protocol for these types of things and while people might see it as
an inconvinence to have to do so, 2 obv fake accounts/reviews that i have reported
personally have been acted upon,so it seems to work

Without a few decent trolls this place wouldn't have much except, good morning threads, with about the same ten people replying to them, an occasional escort's new pictures thread and if someone posted a picture of Elizabeth Taylor from the 1950s,a certain guy without a foreskin, would instantly reply-lovely new pictures babe.
No, what's wrong is the quality of troll this place attracts, repetitive one topic bores a la, old men gillyland, hotels Darko and raids Lopez.
But I guess, poor quality posting attracts poor quality trolling.
There is a certain symmetry to it.

Honestly, to me the problem isn't about being insulted / offended etc. It's about being bored by pages of cock-waving bullshit that goes off-topic. I have an ignore list, but I end up seeing their boring shit anyway because people quote it.

I honestly do think that sensible moderation is needed.

And Floki, FYI, I did report a number of posts hours ago before all this kicked off. Heard nothing. The users are still active but the thread they ruined is now closed for everyone.

There is a problem with some users reinventing themselves and they are running circles around mods and posters. Personally, I look with pity on anyone so sad that they need to do this to get some kind of self-validation but at the end of the day there are ways to make it more expensive to do this or they will just keep doing it. You saw my suggestion to deal with it. I think it's reasonable as the basis for something you would consider more appropriate. Genuine new members won't care about a short one-off quarantine, while recycled trolls will now have to spend a lot more time investing in their sad little hobby.

    Well said. Totally agree, too.

One further suggestion: perhaps have "weighted" penalities for repeat offenders. If I act the bollox once, Im banned for a day. If I continue acting like a bollox over the next month, I get banned for a month. If I act the bollox again, banned for 3 months etc. Hope that makes sense.
