Despite the fact that 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is poorly written and likely won't be a great film, there's no denying it's been a major literary success, with a huge, mainly female readership.
This morning certain 'concerned' morality groups in America had a canary when a toned-down trailer for the film was shown on TV. Some people will yap about anything and of course it's good publicity for the movie, but I do find the complete ignorance in the ''legitamising violence against women' annoying. There's a world of difference between consensual BDSM and actual violence and as usual those with little or no knowledge are shouting the loudest.
This from today's article in The Telegraph:
''Fifty Shades of Grey, which is based on the best-selling novel by EL James, details the relationship between a young student and a sexually experienced entrepreneur, and contains scenes depicting BDSM. Anti-porn education group Morality in Media have released a statement condemning the clip for how it allegedly "romanticises sexual violence."
In a statement, the organisation's director Dawn Hawkins said: "The implications of such a relationship — abuse of power, female inequality, coercion, and sexual violence — glamorises and legitimatises violence against women."
