    HUNGARY Hungaroring Mogyoród

    Practice 1 Fri 09:00
    Practice 2 Fri 13:00
    Practice 3 Sat 10:00
    Qualifying Sat 13:00
    Race Sun 13:00

Normally, an underused circuit becomes faster over the weekend because the track surface gathers more rubber residue; however, with the Hungaroring this does not happen, because the track gets dusty so quickly. The track becomes faster during a qualifying session so competitors try for their best lap as late as possible.
The twisty and bumpy nature of the circuit makes overtaking very difficult, so good qualifying is important.

Drivers have different opinions on the track. Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, and Fernando Alonso liked it, many others consider the track too slow, hot and demanding.

Lewis Hamilton has four wins at the Hungaroring, tied for the most all-time with Michael Schumacher, and will be chasing his third straight victory in Hungary in 2014. He needs a win now. This is the last race before the summer break, so important psychologically to finish with good points.

Hungaroring number of wins per driver
    4 Michael Schumacher 1994, 1998, 2001, 2004
    4 Lewis Hamilton 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013
    3 Ayrton Senna 1988, 1991, 1992
    2 Nelson Piquet 1986, 1987
    2 Damon Hill 1993, 1995
    2 Jacques Villeneuve 1996, 1997
    2 Mika Häkkinen 1999, 2000
    2 Jenson Button 2006, 2011

    Lap length 4.381km (2.722 miles)
    Race laps 70
    Race distance 306.63km (190.531 miles)
Pole position Left-hand side of the track
Lap record 1’19.071 (199.461 kph) (123.939mph) by Michael Schumacher, 2004 (Fastest lap set during a Grand Prix race)
Fastest lap 1’18.436 (201.076 kph)(124.942mph) by Rubens Barrichello, 2004 (not during race)
    Maximum speed 295kph (183.304 mph)

I'm not a fan of the Hungarian GP...can't remember an exciting race there...maybe in 97 when Hill lead in the Arrows for most of the race only for his car to give up the ghost on the last lap. Other than that the races there have been quite dull

    Qualifying, HUNGARY Mogyoród Budapest Hungaroring

Lewis Hamilton did not set a time because of an engine fire.
    1 Nico Rosberg 6 Mercedes
2 Sebastian Vettel 1 Red Bull
    3 Valtteri Bottas 77 Williams
4 Daniel Ricciardo 3 Red Bull
    5 Fernando Alonso 14 Ferrari
    6 Felipe Massa 19 Williams
    7 Jenson Button 22 McLaren
    8 Jean-Eric Vergne 25 Toro Rosso
9 Nico Hulkenberg 27 Force India
    10 Kevin Magnussen 20 McLaren
11 Daniil Kvyat 26 Toro Rosso
    12 Adrian Sutil 99 Sauber
13 Sergio Perez 11 Force India
    14 Esteban Gutierrez 21 Sauber
    15 Romain Grosjean 8 Lotus
    16 Jules Bianchi 17 Marussia
    17 Kimi Raikkonen 7 Ferrari
    18 Kamui Kobayashi 10 Caterham
    19 Max Chilton 4 Marussia
    20 Marcus Ericsson 9 Caterham
    21 Lewis Hamilton 44 Mercedes
    22 Pastor Maldonado 13 Lotus

Mercedes have led an impressive 94% of all the laps this season (590 of 628). The team has led every lap of every race, exception of the Austrian and Canadian GPs.
Mercedes engine dominance is even better - only eight laps in the entire season have been led by Renault or Ferrari-powered teams combined.

Fernando Alonso has been dragging the maximum out of arguably the worst car Ferrari have yet given him.
Ferrari have one podium finish so far this year. If they are not on the podium after this race, then 2014 will be their worst start to any season since 1986.
    Race tomorrow 13:00

What is it with Hamilton and qualifying sessions lately??? On a tight track like Hungary it will be difficult for him to get into the points

Yep. This is the sixth successive race where he has had problems in qualifying.
He has not started from pole position since the Spanish Grand Prix in May.

Some recent additions to the Grand Prix circuit. Azerbaijan will host the European Grand Prix in 2016 on a street circuit in Baku. Meanwhile next year will see F1 return to Mexico after an absence of over 20 years

Where are people watching the F1 races. BBC seem not to show the races live anymore. Even the qualifying was on BBC three today at 17.40 at least 3 hours after live qualifying. I dont have Sky.

The reason the BBC does not show all the races is because the rights have been sold to SkySorts. The agreement allows the BBC to show only half the races live.

The BBC not showing all the races is, I think, a mistake for Formula One. The money they receive from SkySports has to be balanced against the loss of interest in the racing that occurs when it is not on live on terrestrial TV.

The race today, as you say, is not live on BBC. Of the remaining eight races, five are live on the BBC.

 Belgian Grand Prix. Spa-Francorchamps, 22-24 August, live on BBC.
 Italian Grand Prix. Monza, 5-7 September, live on BBC.
 Singapore Grand Prix. Singapore, 19-21 September. BBC highlights only, later.
 Japanese Grand Prix. Suzuka, 3-5 October, live on BBC.
 Russian Grand Prix. Sochi, 10-12 October, live on BBC.
 United States Grand Prix. Austin, 31 Oct-2 Nov, BBC highlights only, later.
 Brazilian Grand Prix. Sao Paulo, 7-9 November, BBC highlights only, later.
 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Yas Marina, 21-23 November, live on BBC.
