My Version Of Prostitution

“Goddess Temples”
As we all know “goddess temples” were common in ancient times;Israel,Greece,Ancient Rome,Asia and so on.
Those temples were formed by women but also men.I believe men where the first one’s that helped in creating that invironment .
Along the centuries those temples faced an certain amount of different views ,changing from a century to another.
There were indeed various ways in the exchange trade, one and the most famous was money trade;although there has been trades like “a kid” fee or return of information as most those days deal with a very high knowledge about socio-cultural and military situations.
In order to be a courtesan sexual skills were not among other skills and also not always a priority ,it was required to practice the art of dance, music, poetry;most of wich was important was beauty and entertainment skills.
Now somewhere in the 4th century when Constantine, the emperor, came to power ;those temples were destroyed and replaced with Christianity.
So it all went from the form of legal and public prostitution, wich by then was considered free to engage prostitutes of either sex without incurring moral disapproval as long as they demonstrated self-control and moderation in the frequency and enjoyment of sex,to the forbidden form of it.
It all started with moving those “goddess temples” further more to the outside urban places.During the Middle Ages, prostitution was being tolerated (although all forms of sexual activity outside of marriage were regarded as sinful by the church)because it was held to prevent the greater evils of rape, sodomy and masturbation .
During all this time until 16th-17th century, courtesans have came out in many forms such as concubines in the harems of the arab world, slaves ,fixed-term marriages,Turkish baths wich were performed by women/men washing men’s bodies etc.But we have to keep in mind that is has always been there even now and it will always be here,as they say it is “the world’s oldest profession”.
Now beginning with 16th-17th centuries, views and attitudes started to change defining a prostitute as ”a promiscuous woman/man,regardless of financial elements followed by an outbreak of syphilis and the prevalence of other sexually transmitted diseases but also by the political agenda of the religious communities.
We can see that the slaves prostitutes was coming more on the market and many availed of those enforced men and women to fulfill their sexual desires. It was not anymore just about the free choice .
Now,18th century was an important history point where prostitutes started using condoms and they also talk about the Turkish baths, where the masseurs were traditionally young men ,who helped wash clients by soaping and scrubbing their bodies;but also worked as sex workers.
While all this stigma started to come upon sex workers, worse things started to happen:19th and 20th century there was a network of Chinese and Japanese prostitutes being trafficked across Asia,a network of European prostitutes being trafficked to India,Ceylon,Singapore,China and Japan. The most common destination for European prostitutes was to service the british soldiers.
Since then many have tried to enforce their believes into laws wich did not have any interest in the sex worker views. If we would have to learn from history is that it was never about the sex worker’s life but it was more about the political views at certain times.
Nobody cared and bothered to act according to what sex workers believe it is right for them.
I believe it is now time to change our present and future and allow that stigma to fall so that we can have a better and more compashion view of sex workers .
But I would like to refer a bit also about the history of homosexuality wich in my eyes is very similar to the history of sex workers.
Now,same-sex love has been referred to since the earliest recorded history, the ancient Greece, same as the prostitutes history times.
“In regard of male homosexuality such documents depict a world in which relationships with women and relationships with youths were the essential foundation of a normal man's love life. Same-sex relationships were a social institution variously constructed over time and from one city to another. The formal practice, an erotic yet often restrained relationship between a free adult male and a free adolescent, was valued for its pedagogic benefits and as a means of population control, though occasionally blamed for causing disorder.”
In both cases they “ were prosecuting, fining, and imprisoning a good portion of that population”.
If you do read carefully you will find many similarities between homosexuality and sex workers, both having the same stigma attached to it during our history times. But their time to be accepted had arrived and managed to show people that they do not mean any harm and they should be accepted by who they are. That is how we got to the point that gay people now have rights.
Why isn’t it the same with sex workers?!
How much longer do we have to wait until it happens?!
What is it that it keeps it for happening?!
I tell you why:We haven’t spread the word enough,we haven’t yet came out and say “YES.I am a sex worker and that is just who I am.You have to accept me for who I am!”
What are we doing wrong here?
That is a very good question.
Most of the environment has changed since ancient times, sex workers have now more knowledge about hygiene, protection,I dare to say more self-esteem.
They have inproved in so many ways that I can happily say they should be proud of it.
But stigma still follows them wherever they go,they cannot step up and say what they feel and think, they still cannot search for the help they need;cause there is no one there to really hear them.
Some they do not want to hear and some act like they do.
So,where is the truth?!
Well it is always somewhere in the middle..
But we should keep in mind one important aspect:
“It’s not about me or you. It’s about the safety and dignity of those who are actually involved in the industry”

Surely sex workers have rights as citizens - as brothels are legal in Germany what is the position of the sex worker there?
